Gay candidate with defaced signs wins Florida council seat
A Miami Shores politician whose campaign signs were defaced with anti-gay slurs won his bid for a seat on the local village council.

Jesse Walters beat incumbent Prospero G. Herrera II and will become only the fourth openly gay official in Miami-Dade County.

Walters edged out Herrera by just 69 votes.

Last weekend, some of Walters’ yard signs were vandalized with anti-gay slurs. On one sign, the word “FAGGOT” was plastered over Walter’s face. Walters responded to the incident on his site, jesse2011.com.
