Sorry, Last Comment: I dare any straight person I know to declare that a GLBT person didn't make
Edited on Tue Apr-26-11 06:26 PM by Mike 03
their lives better. I knew nurses, teachers, professors, pastors, scholars, friends, helpers on all levels, and just plain helpful, smart people. This country, that prides itself in intelligence, equality and kindness, needs to get a grip with reality, and who we really owe respect to.

I don't know if my GLBT friends/teachers are still alive. I know one of them has passed on from AIDS, who was the most brilliant teacher I ever had, but I need them to know that they changed my life. They were the most important people in my life. And I promise to always defend this community.

My heart is with the GLBT community. There is no going back.

2. My lesbian DAUGHTER has enriched my life
Edited on Tue Apr-26-11 06:34 PM by HockeyMom
She is my life and my soulmate, if a child can be that. In many ways, I am closer to her than even my husband of 37 years.

6. Plenty have.

Mostly friends, but I can also think of a teacher and a psychologist who were instrumental in helping me at tough times.

Being GLBT has nothing to do with whether or not someone is a good, kind person. Although most of those I have known were both.

7. I don't have any gay friends or family that I know of.
I don't really know any gay people personally. I wish I did but i don't. I do know that I will stand up for their rights whenever I can. All people deserve to be treated equally with respect and dignity. It seems like a no brainer to me. I hope they bring marriage equality to my state soon.

9. Yes, I know that
I don't know who they are but I also don't really care. If someone told me they were gay, I would care about as much as if they said they were left handed. My neighbor, grocery clerk, coworker, librarian or any of the hundreds of people I see every day could be gay.

10. being gay and left-handed, let me say they are NOT analogous ...
while I was indeed chastised for being left-handed when I was young, I was never beaten by my father for it. I was never beaten-up on the playground for it. I was never told I would go to hell because of it. I was never denied a job because of it. And I have never once been in fear for my life because of it.

ALL of those things happened to me, and many others because of their sexuality. You probably mean well, and I'm not trying to say otherwise.

But if you are truly an ally, you DO need to care.

13. I'm sorry.
All I was just trying to say that I support gay rights. I didn't mean to upset you.

11. Thank you, Mike 03
Beautifully-said. They can deny all they want, but the fact is, GLBT people make everyone's lives better and richer every day. People like you give me hope for heterosexuals. Actually, I know quite a few wonderful straight allies out there, but every one is special to me. Bless, you, Mike and have a great day.:toast:

12. Thank you for this post, my heart is also with our community and all communities who accept others
for everything they are and everything they aren't. We gay Americans are everywhere and we love our country, our communities and each other. We only ask for one thing and it's nothing special, to be treated equally under the Articles set forth in our Constitution.

14. Damn straight. (pun intended) The GLBT community has been nothing but good to me and my family.
My family's main support is a transgender man. He celebrates holidays with us, he watches our kids, he always lets us know when we're needed at a pro-gblt rally, and he helps us in many little ways. Our family would not be the same without him.

He is one of many glbt who have touched our lives, but he is more involved in our family than any other human (besides my wife, our children, and I). He's awesome. He's family.

17. That would be a false statement.
At the very LEAST my life is better because of Barney Frank's constant advocacy for working people.
