Anglican Bishops In Open Revolt Over Leader's Gay Stance
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon05/11/111705archbish.htm

The worldwide Anglican Church appeared headed for certain breakup on Thursday as conservatives angrily rejected their leader's call for peace.

In a stinging rebuke 17 - nearly half - of the church's 38 primates accused Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams of failing to steer the church on a conservative path and denounce the churches in North America for supporting gay clergy.

In a letter to Williams the bishops' who lead the 17 provinces' said they were losing confidence in him. The letter said that they were "troubled" by Williams' reluctance to use his moral authority to challenge the Episcopal Church in the US for consecrating the first openly gay bishop in the denomination and for doing little to condemn the Anglican Church of Canada for allowing a diocese to endorse blessings of same-sex couples.

pardon my french but fuck 'em

2. I read earlier this year
That some big funders on the religious right were funding a schism over this in the Anglican Church. They want to push other faiths to become more reactionary also.

7. This wouldn't surprise me at all
These people want a world theocracy - this would be an typical tactic of the wingnut cults.

3. Sigh...
A fight over so little. Jesus was explicit about the moral evil of divorce (Matthew 5:32), and said nothing of note about homosexuality. And yet, a divorcee is accepted into the Church without so much as a second thought (Hell, the church was pretty much created for a divorce). It's true that Paul did write against homosexuals, but there is some scholarly debate as to whether or not Paul himself was gay.

What is amusing to me is that the conservatives rail against Robinson for his homosexuality, but not for his divorce. How can one supposed moral evil be tolerated, while another is not? Absurd.

5. Some prices are worth paying
It is sad that one of the oldest Protestant churches is apparently about to break apart but this is a ditch worth dying in. The North American Anglicans who remain will be in a better church.

6. Tell them to STFU and GO ALREADY
For godsakes, these "conservative" drama queens act as if the very foundation of their religion was shaken! If these Third World primates require human sacrifices in order to please their "god" then they need to just GO. . .instead of demanding that everyone else do the same.

8. 300 years ago, Akinola would have sold people into slavery.
His hatred for those different is so deep, that he seems cut from the same cloth as those who sold captives, or others they wanted out of the tribe into slavery. I have been trying to figure out my visceral reaction to Bishop Akinola even though I have only read his words, and that is it.

If they want to get out, then be done with it already. The Episcopal Church will be fine, and we are not going to toss aside over thirty years of work towards full inclusion because Peter Akinola is in a tizzy.
