Judge Approves Gay Teen Prison Suit
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon05/11/112205hawaii.htm

A federal judge has ruled that a lawsuit by three LGBT teens against the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility can proceed.

The teens say in the suit that say they've been abused and harassed because of their sexual orientation and gender identity while at the detention facility.

The suit was filed on their behalf by the American Civil Liberties Union in September (story).

State attorneys sought to have the case dismissed claiming the teens lacked legal standing because they were no longer incarcerated when the suit was filed.

1. Sad
So, what, the statute of limitations on abuse runs out the minute they're no longer in the facility? What, their parents have to sue for them...hoping their parents aren't the reason they're there in the first place? What a bunch of jerks, I mean really. "Lacked legal standing" indeed.

And in the end, treating people like, well, shit, it really helps their gender indentification in ALL cases, right? It really helped those teens to be harassed, for those that believe gay teens need "help", as if being gay is a problem, that practice helps? *rolling eyes*

Why was I born into this world and who do I have to kick the shit out of to fix it...

2. This Thanksgiving I'm thankful for the ACLU.
I am going to inquire how to become a card-carrying member.

3. How to contribute to the ACLU?
.
There are generally two manners in which you may contribute to the ACLU. You may contribute money to
(1.) ACLU national office, or (2.) your local state ACLU chapter.

Here's the ACLU national office website donation page: http://action.aclu.org/site/PageServer?pagename=FJ_donationhome

And, here's a list of ACLU state chapter websites: http://www.aclu.org/ (scroll down to the bottom of this webpage and run your cursor over "your local ACLU" then select your home state chapter for donation information)

The ACLU has an excellent and long history of legal work regarding our country's Bill of Rights. As a former volunteer attorney of the ACLU, your contribution is appreciated.
