Finally, our own gay country
It’s true. A gay country has been established on islands in the Coral Sea.
It’s called The Gay & Lesbian Kingdom of the Coral Sea Islands (formally the Australian territory of the Coral Sea Islands.)

So on the 14th day of June 2004, the Queens birthday long weekend formal notice of independence was duly served on the Governor General of Australia. The gay rainbow flag was raised on Cato Island the highest point in the Coral Sea Island territory and the declaration of independence was declared and the formal secession proclaimed.

Having seceded from the Commonwealth of Australia, the gay community required the people of the province elect a government. A council of 4 administrators with Dale Parker Anderson as the Administrator was duly elected to govern the seceded territory, which the gay council named The Gay & Lesbian Coral Sea Islands. Adoption of the gay rainbow flag was also a judicial requirement with which the council duly complied.

Faced with formidable opposition from the Homophobic Australian Government the gay council sought an answer within the framework of the British sources of protection. A meeting of the council was called to discuss the stated of a law which holds that anyone assisting a defacto Prince attain his office cannot be charged with treason. Therefore the Gay council adopted the status of a Principality/Kingdom and bestowed the title of Prince/Emperor upon the administrator, thereby gaining further protection than they otherwise had.

Thus the administrator of the Gay & Lesbian Coral Sea Islands became His Imperial Majesty Dale, Emperor of the Gay & Lesbian Kingdom of the Coral Sea Islands.

Gay Constitution
The Gay Constitution is contract between the Sovereign and the gay people. Accordingly, it can not be altered without the consent of both parties. After declaring The Gay Kingdom to be a free and independent country an extremely liberal Gay Constitution was adopted and Dale Parker Anderson was elected Emperor and the symbol of state.

The law decrees that realm of the Gay Kingdom of the Coral Sea Islands is the private property of the gay and lesbian people. They are subject to God alone and that all public acts must be decided by them, sealed with their seal and signed by their Emperor. Gay absolutism is therefore complete.

1. Weeeeelll!
I guess if we become hunted and outlawed here at home, at least we have a place to seek refuge. :silly:

Are these people taken seriously by the Australian Government? Are these people taken seriously by anyone? If so I wouldn't mind going to visit. It's a neat idea and sounds fun.

7. Nope!!!
They aren't taken seriously at all. Not even by the gay community.

Sapphocrat found this a few months ago, and sent me over to take a peek at the site. I admit, when I read it, I bloody well pissed myself laughing. Their constitution is much to be desired.

This could work if a proper place was set up, but what this guy has done is basically squattered on the Island and made himself ruler for life. If the Australian government wants to get serious, they can remove the guy and anyone else there by force. Doesn't exactly help our communities cause now, does it?

3. A refuge for gays everywhere?
Three square kilometers?

And do the people who put up the website even live there?

This is a cute way of making a political point, but obviously not serious.

4. Hmm... I'm sure many would love to think that all gays could fit on a 3 km
island. I think we should just go ahead and take California right now.

Nice idea for a resort, but nothing that people would ever take seriously.
