Salt Lake City Council members are attempting to weaken Mayor Rocky Anderson's domestic partner plan by broadening it to include other adults living with city employees.

In a straw poll this week, all seven council members said they would support the council-created plan to provide health-insurance benefits for city employees' ``adult designees.'' That includes gay and heterosexual domestic partners, relatives and roommates.

To qualify, the designee would have to have lived with the employee for at least a year, and the two would have to be financially connected.

The plan is expected to cost the city an additional $140,000 to $225,000, depending on how many employees sign up.

I have no problem including others in a similar status into the plan. I think I would only have a problem with it if others were included and GLBTs were not.

I don't get the 'emasculate' part, unless their plan is to make it so expensive as to be unworkable.

But no surprise since 365gay.com isn't too terrific about its news reporting. It's sloppy at best, and here at worst it is discriminatory! YIKES.
