Idaho Senate Prepares To Vote On Gay Unions Ban

The Idaho Senate will vote Monday on a proposed amendment to the state constitution that would ban same-sex marriage and civil unions.

The amendment says that "a marriage between a man and a woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized" in Idaho.

The measure passed the House earlier this week. (story)

Earlier today the Senate State Affairs Committee voted voted 5-4 to send the proposed amendment to the full Senate where it must get support of two-thirds of the members in order to be placed on the ballot in November.

1. The Idaho House has passed this for the last two years

but the Senate has stopped it. Hope it does again. The push is from far right wing zealots funded from out of state.

There is little passion in Idaho to have the government interfere with private lives.

The Idaho House does have an openly lesbian congress woman who is well respected as a community leader.
