Dubuque Teachers Union Wants Gay Partner Benefits

Teachers want the Dubuque school district to provide health coverage for same-sex couples.

Their union, the Dubuque Education Association, has included the benefits in its contract demands. The association is in negotiations with district for a new contract.

A union spokesperson said the issue was included in talks with the district after it was raised by several gay and lesbian teachers and by a Dubuque LGBT rights group.

"We were looking at it from the standpoint of just being proactive," Joe Tollari, DEA's chief negotiator told the Telegraph Herald.

2. dubuque certainly has changed over the last few years

that is a strong catholic city- interesting, knowing the history of that area i can`t believe the city council would pass that ordinance but i guess attitudes in dubuque have changed for the better.
