Alaska Moves On Gay Benefits Ban Amendment
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/02/021706alaska.htm

A wide range of Alaska residents have told a state Senate committee that a proposed constitutional amendment to ban health benefits to the same-sex partners of gay and lesbian state and municipal workers is nothing short of discrimination.

The Alaska Constitution already forbids same-sex marriage but some lawmakers want that expanded to include benefits following a state Supreme Court ruling that ordered Alaska to provide the same-sex partners of public employees with the same benefits as received by married workers.

The court ruled in October that denying the benefits violates the Alaska Constitution's equal-protection clause. (story)

The bock implementation of the ruling a group of legislators in both houses are proposing to amend the marriage ban to say that not only is marriage between a man and a woman the only union valid in the state but also opposite-sex couples are the only ones "to which the rights, benefits, obligations, qualities or effects of marriage shall be extended or assigned."

1. Alaska fucking sucks
I was head of a political action group there - just to get gays and lesbians political protection from discrimination. We got shot down.

Apparently "gay" is a choice, not something innate. So no protection. However, religion and marital status are protected. They are innate - yeah? Who the fuck is born married? Born into a religion?

One of the women on the civil rights board was photographed holding a sign that said "Gay rights? Never!"

Am I bitter? Yeah. Angry? Yeah.

Khash.

2. So being straight is a choice? Their lack of logic in trying to defend
their bigotry never fails to make my head spin.
