Oklahoma City Libraries To Move Books On Gay Families
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/02/021706okBooks.htm

Nine months after state lawmakers called on publicly funded libraries to remove books on gay families Oklahoma City's 's Metropolitan Library Commission has voted to move the books to a separate section available only to adults.

The LGBT-themed books are geared to children's reading levels - from just learning to read to about age 12.

The new section will be called the "parenting collection" and lumps books on gay families and growing up gay with books on child abuse, domestic violence and substance abuse.

Oklahoma state legislators last May passed a non-binding resolution telling libraries that books written for children about gay families should be placed in Adults Only sections.

2. I wonder if they'll be doing the same thing
with childrens books about dinosaurs soon. Can't allow the kiddies to have access to books which suggest any validity to any notion of origins that is not in line with Biblical literalism.

3. Don't give those boneheads any ideas.
And, yes, I am suggesting they are too damn stupid to ever think of it themselves!

4. I hope they're keeping the Bible in the adults only section.
There's all kinds of nasty stuff in there, like the story of Lot being raped by his two daughters so that they could get pregnant. I suppose Oklahomans consider that to be a model of a healthy family, at least compared with gay people raising kids together.

6. I'd hate for some poor child to get a hold of the Bible and read
the part about the prophet Elisha cursing the kids and two bears coming down from the hills and tearing apart 42 of them. Yikes, a child who read that would need therapy, he or she would have life-long issues.

The local art museum has a show of 17th century Dutch paintings. One of them is a painting of this precise Old Testament story. The interpretative tag explained that this was meant to teach young viewers respect for elders. Omigod!

9. Wasn't Lot OFFERING his daughters to a mob?
It's a terrible homophobic story. As the story goes, Lot was trying to protect two visiting angels from a mob who wanted to rape them. So Lot offers up his daughters instead. Why does this story seem so unreal?
