Gays more accepted in workplace
A Harris survey finds that 61 percent of U.S. adults think that companies should be free to offer partnership benefits to gay and lesbian employees.

The fifth annual Out and Equal Survey also found that 72 percent of those questioned favor company non-discrimination policies that include sexual orientation, up from 63 percent in 2002.

Gays and lesbians included in the survey had a growing comfort level with being open about their orientation. Half said they would be comfortable displaying a same-sex partner's photograph in the office, and 62 percent said they would be comfortable introducing same-sex partners to supervisors and other management.

In 2002, only 34 percent were comfortable with photographs and 41 percent with introductions.

1. once people start coming out -- and people have to deal with the fact
that someone they know and like is gay -- the more the ''gay bogeyman'' runs far away.

but that process of coming out is still a bitch -- don't lets kid our selves -- we do it but it ain't easy.

but someday baby, someday...

3. agreed, and I see this current generation just popping out in high school
seemingly without a care in the world what anyone else thinks. Not that there aren't plenty of other kids in the closet who would lose (or are afraid they would lose) family and friends if they spoke up.

But it does my heart good to see more and more who like people (or dislike them) for the people they are - not who they fall in love with.

2. This is really good news.
I was sure that was the trend, but it's good to see the research to confirm it. This is really positive, but we still have a long way to go for full acceptance. The best thing any gay person can do is to live their lives openly, honestly, and without shame, and that acceptance will come in time.

I'm doing my part. :)
