"A Day Without Gays"
I wonder what it would be like if we had a "day without GLBT," like the "day without immigrants" - a day where GLBT and allies didn't buy anything and didn't go to work or school. I understand not everyone would be able to or would want to take part - that's fine, since not all immigrants took part in the Day Without Immigrants. But it would show how much of a part we are of society.

1. I'd like to have
a couple of decades without religiously insane fundamentalists.

You have an interesting idea which I suspect would be heavily supported by a large segment of the non-gay populace.

2. Gays would be harassed as soon as they returned to work
Unfortunately the same sort of vitriol that was directed at the "slacker" illegals would be directed toward gays who tried the same thing.

"We always thought you were queer, but when you skipped work yesterday it confirmed it," says the bully.

Rather than gays leave work I'd rather see these bastards leave office.

3. I understand not everyone would feel comfortable taking part
And, since millions across the US are still at risk of being fired just for being GLBT, that is a very real fear.

4. How about this
to keep from punishing our "friendly" employers and coworkers and business owners.

A website:

Log in anonymously and add the following:

1. your annual income and position, by State

Let's take approximately the same tax value from that derivation and figure out how much we're paying in state and federal taxes today.

Let's figure out how much we earn per day.
Let's figure out how many of us are in committed relationships and will continue to be.
Let's figure out how many children we collectively support.

Let's figure out how much we spend per week on groceries.
Let's figure out how much we spend per year on mortgages, car loans, student loans and credit cards
Let's figure out how much we spend per day from those stats.

Let's have some anonymous numbers too to scare our chickenshit politicos:

1. Do you plan to vote?
2. Are you typically Dem / Rep / Other?
3. If your party puts forth a candidate who is against gay marriage will you still vote?
4. Do you serve in the military?
5. Do you plan on serving in the military?
6. Do you currently work in any form of law enforcement or government administration?

and so on.

It could be done with the right sampling methodology.

Anyone want to take a crack at it?

5. I have started to see calls for another March on Washington
In 1993, an estimated half a million men and women marched in Washington DC to demand equal rights under the law for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people. I think the summer of 2008, 15 years latter, would be an appropriate time to hold another such march. Organizers could invite Democratic candidates for President and Congress; it would be very interesting -- and most illuminating, I'm sure -- to see who accepted the invitation and actually spoke out in favor of equal rights under the law. But I digress....

A "day without gays" would be appropriate for cities across America to coincide with such a march, methinks.

6. Greatest weapon: people seeing us struggle in a hostile world.
We need to change the bigots and the homophobic warmongering torture loving false christians or take away their power.

Perhaps humor such as Archie Bunker did, showing how stupid bigots are. For example, show the pious bigot talking about God´s love on Sunday and then spending the next week fuming over the gay guy who is merely trying to survive in a world of greedy businessmen who disdain all working people.
