Romney Protest Recap

Congratulations to everyone who showed up to protest Romney today. There were hundreds of people on both sides, with the pro-equality side actually outnumbering the anti-gay crowd.

See photos here!

Watch the videos here!

Mitt Romney had a huge American flag hanging behind him on the State House as he spoke. There were hundreds of anti-gay supporters cheering him on as he blasted the 109 legislators that voted to protect civil rights.

The Massachusetts 'Family' Institute bused people in from all over the state. They were all very upset that they will never get the chance to vote on civil rights. Today was a little different for us too. We were on the opposite side of the street and we were protesting instead of rallying. It was great.

MassResistance was also there. They had a banner that read, "Gay Marriages: Romney started them / He can stop them".

I had a little chat with Brian and Amy. Brain thinks that we should donate to MassResistance because they are also against the VoteOnMarriage constitutional amendment. Brian and Amy both tried to take my picture at different times. See the great photos I have of them.

With the pro-equality crowd booing and chanting "shame", "bigot" and "you lost, go home, get over it" we managed to drowned out Romney's anti-gay message. Words cannot do this protest justice.

Take a look at the photos and watch the videos.

BUH BYE Guv!

Well, Massachusetts' absentee governor held his presidential campaign rally, er, anti-gay marriage rally today in front of the State House. (From the looks of it, I wonder if tax payer money was used to put together this heinous show of discrimination?) All the news stories so far have said "hundreds" of people showed up on both sides. Me thinks they didn't get the turnout they were hoping for. Even Cardinal O'Malley and Ex-Boston Mayor Ray Flynn got about a thousand in 2004 for their hate fest.

I think it's funny that Romney, who has about a 30% approval rating in this state is trying to "lead the masses". He didn't do it four years ago and he can't do it today.

Yes, Governor, soon you will be history. I'm sure you won't be forgetting that two weeks ago Massachusetts voters overwhelming chose a Pro-Marriage equality candidate for the corner office. Your hand picked Lt. Governor floundered terribly. The Republican party you said you were going to built in the state has sunk to lows not seen since the Civil war. (Does anyone remember Ron Crews who ran the Mass Family Institute ran for state wide office, lost miserably and left the state?)

Yes, Governor, the people HAVE voted and you lost. BUH BYE!

2. The Photos Aren't Showing Up For Me
But I can imagine what it was like. A little mustache, a few brown shirts and torches, and the picture would be complete.

5. Accurate. MassEquality deliberately tried to keep their side small.
They debated not even showing-up at all, since as far as they're concerned, they've won, and the debate is over. But they decided to show-up with a carefully selected group of activists.

7. I just watched the videos, and a couple things I noticed
Edited on Mon Nov-20-06 10:27 AM by IanDB1
1) The pro-equality side looks like it was smaller, but it doesn't look small.

2) I didn't see a whole lot of the MassEquality people with their bullhorns and walkie-talkies.

3) It didn't look (to me, anyway) that our side tried very hard to "stay positive." Not that this is bad. Personally, I'm to sick and tired of taking six years of Republicker abuse to "stay positive." I see little benefit in "staying positive" anymore.

My guess is that MassEquality may have been over-whelmed by a huge number of people who showed-up on their own, or were organized by other groups. Or else they just decided to pull out all the stops at the last minute and to take the gloves off.

In any case, I was very impressed by what I saw coming from our side. I'm glad that we're willing to stand-up and be heard, and that we refuse to be bullied anymore.

Der Mittenfuhrer is DONE.
