MA Gov Romney asks SJCourt to put same-sex marriage ban on MA ballot . . .

(Governor Mitt) Romney asks (Massachusetts Supreme Judicial C)ourt to put same-sex marriage ban on Massachusetts ballot

JURIST NEWS, Bernard Hibbitts, Friday, November 24, 2006, at 7:01 PM ET

(Jurist News) Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (official website) Friday(, November 24, 2006) filed a request with (highest court of) the state(, the) http://www.mass.gov/courts/courtsandjudges/courts/supremejudicialcourt/">Supreme Judicial Court (JURIST report) to put a measure effectively banning same-sex marriage (text, .rft format) on the 2008 Massachusetts ballot if legislators fail to vote on the issue before the end of their term on January 2(, 2007). Romney took the anticipated action (JURIST report) after state lawmakers voted 109-87 to recess an ongoing joint House-Senate session until that day. Opponents of the measure to define marriage as only between a man and a woman say they may not have the votes to block it, amounting to 151 of the 200 session members. Fifty members can approve the measure. AP has more.

(The Boston Globe (newspaper) has an insightful article which was gleaned from, and expanded from, the AP article (above).)

Massachusetts (JURIST news archive) is currently the only US state to recognize same-sex marriage, after a November 2003 state high court ruling (JURIST report; background materials. More than 8,000 same-sex couples have subsequently wed in the state, and the precedent has sparked a nationwide debate over gay marriage.

The short and long of all Mitt Romney's pontificating is that he is bashing and using the gay community as a political tool in his run for the presidency in 2008. You see, this lawsuit hasn't a chance in hell of succeeding. And, Romney knows it too. After all, Governor Mitt Romney is a Harvard Law School graduate. He knows. Indeed, he does! Mitt Romney is kissing the bottom-side of the extreme rightwingnuts of the Republican Party who want to place their own religious views into our laws. That's how badly Romney wants George W. Bush's job.

3. I wonder how many of these GOPholes are sincere
Seriously, it seems that a fair amount of their pandering to the rabble is simply that: the ability to say "Well, I tried but lost. Please elect me so I can try again." These guys would shoot themselves in the foot if they ever actually fulfilled their promises to the religiots.

4. Willard "Mitt" Romney is a Rat
He only shows up in our state a few days a month, and only to bash homosexuals.

What a useless pile of crap.

I suspect that if he's elected President, he'd be way more evil than even The Smirk.

6. Don't forget
It's not just 'pugs / religious right types who vote for these "gay marriage" anti-equality measures.

7. You're right. We need to find out who and why amongst the Democrats.
Another thing we need to do is get the word out in the gay community that, 'Not talk about it (hearing the voice of Harvey Fierstein)" is not OK. Everyone needs to talk to every member of his family/friends and make sure that they know that voting for this stuff is hurting a family member. That family looks out for family and doesn't vote against the family.
