All candidate and partisan crap aside. |

I have come to realize over the past months how much bigotry the GLBT community faces in this country. Television, movies, the public in general. The strength it must take to be gay in our society I cannot even comprehend. I have always been sensitive to minority issues, and take a somewhat militant approach when it comes to issues of race. I have been admittedly ignorant of what your community faces through a lack of investigation and, to be truthful, curiosity. I posted this here in the hopes that it would not degenerate into a candidate thread. I have made a personal commitment to become more educated on the challenges faced by the GLBT community, as I see this struggle to be the same as the struggle for racial equality. Much work to do.

It's always heartening when somebody gets it. So few seem to, particularly lately. :hi:

2. Glad to know that there are some respectable people still out there |

I couldn't begin to imagine the experiences held within the GLBT people of even just the DU. Certainly if you're looking for education, I see no better place to start.
You said something that I think that everyone in this country should take to heart... the challenges faced by the GLBT community... and that you... cannot comprehend the strength it takes to be gay in this society. That's just what it takes, community, and with community we can affect change. So welcome, come in, and by all means stay a while.

analogous to that of racial equality. Except in the case of GLBT persons, we also struggle with religious bigotry on far too many levels. You have taken the first step. You have recognized the issues we face and you show empathy and regard. Again, thank you.

and I can only imagine what it was like for him openly gay teen in the 1950's. He died of his addiction in the 1960's.
