Some politicians want people to vote on Gay Marriage and that's fine... |
|
If you want to vote on others rights, OK, I guess I can get behind that.
So when do we get to vote on the rights of other people? Interracial marriage? Unmarried couples living together? Divorce and remarriage (especially for some politicians)? Marriage of the elderly (where there's likely not going to be children created)? And the list goes on.
Why do we get to vote on the rights of ONE group of people? Why does the majority get to supress the rights of a minority?
I'm sorry, for a second I thought I lived in the United States of America.

1. I know, it's stupid, isn't it? |
|
Especially when they label anti-gay measures "Defense of Marriage". It is no such thing. Having more loving couples united in marriage STRENGTHENS the institution. A REAL "Defense of Marriage Act" would severely limit or ban divorce.

7. Yep. That's why the Defense of Marriage Act should be renamed "Defense of Patriarchy Act," |
|
because that's effectively what it is, protection of the right of men, who are already privileged in this patriarchal society, to enter and exit baby-making marriage at will.

3. This is one of the reasons I support the LBGT community's fight for equal status |
|
Because those wacko RW Fundies would come to my house next to tell me what I can and cannot do, or be burned at the stake.
We're all free, or none of are.

4. I'd call for a ban on May-December marriages |
|
I'm tired of seeing old geezers with young babes. It bothers me. I'd like to pass a law that no man can marry a woman more than 5 years younger than him. OTOH, December-May marriages (woman much older than the man) would be legal. :P

5. How about a ban on childless marriages? |
|
I mean, the religious right has been saying for years that one and only purpose of marriage is to protect the children born as a result of that marriage.

Weren't you trying to get a ballot initiative or some law passed about this? I think old farts and old bags shouldn't be allowed to marry cause they ain't gonna be poppin' out any kids. Let's vote on THAT!:sarcasm:
