"They are asking all members of the church to, “do all you can to support the proposed constitutional amendment by donating of your means and time to assure that marriage in California is legally defined as being between a man and a woman.”"

2. In the words of The The
Edited on Mon Jun-23-08 01:44 AM by FreeState
Love is stronger than death. The church can believe they are taking away my "eternal family" but love concours all. (The LDS church teaches the only way to be with your family in the next life is through your membership in the church - aka baptism, temple etc).

The The Love Is Stronger than Death:

Love Love Love
Love Love Love

Me & my friend were walking
In the cold light of mourning.
Tears may blind the eyes but the soul is not deceived
In this world even winter ain't what it seems.

Here come the blue skies Here comes springtime.
When the rivers run high & the tears run dry.
When everything that dies.
Shall rise.

Love Love Love is stronger than death.
Love Love Love is stronger than death.

In our lives we hunger for those we cannot touch.
All the thoughts unuttered & all the feelings unexpressed
Play upon our hearts like the mist upon our breath.
But, awoken by grief, our spirits speak
"How could you believe that the life within the seed
that grew arms that reached
And a heart that beat.
And lips that smiled
And eyes that cried.
Could ever die?"

Here come the blue skies Here comes springtime.
When the rivers run high & the tears run dry.
When everything that dies.
Shall rise.

Love Love Love is stronger than death.
Love Love Love is stronger than death.

Shall rise. Shall rise.
Shall rise. Shall rise.

5. It is well past time for the LDS to lose it 501(c)(3) status
The blatant electioneering, dictated from the highest levels and promulgated by every church, has got to either stop or the church loses its tax-free status.

7. Can they loose status over issues (as opposed to candidates)?
I thought that the law was set up so that Churches could not endorse candidates or parties but "issues" were okay for some bizarre reason.

10. Well the church just got new leadership in the last three months
the Prophet died (he was in his 90's). The new Prophet - Monson - had at one time appeared to be more liberal or at least more open to doing things differently than in the past. All that hope just flew out the window....

11. It just boggles my mind that someone could be gay and want to stay in the LDS
There's no such thing as "liberal" in the LDS.

17. Sure there are individual "liberal" members, but Mormonism is homophobic and racist
Horribly so.

The cognitive dissonance that must be going on in a gay LDS member is ASTOUNDING.

14. There are many reasons to want to stay a member
There are many reasons to want to stay a member even if you do not believe.

In my case my whole family on both side of my parents are LDS all the way back to the beginning. My GGG Grandfather funded the first printing of the Book of Mormon. One of my other GGG Grandfathers was very high up in the leadership for years (no giving a name here for a reason:) ). I was raised LDS, served a 2 year mission. I went to church every Sunday of my life, unless I was sick, until I came out - that might not sound like a feat but Church is 3 hours long on Sundays. I spent 45 minutes a day before school in High School at seminary (scripture study). My parents are getting up there in age and it would greatly upset them if I left the church - thats the main reason I have remained a member. But in reality Im Mormon even if I do leave the Church - its so ingrained in my from my birth that there really is no escaping its influence on me.

Oh guess what? My grandma was a democrat. My uncle is a democrat. My Dad votes democratic mostly. My brothers and sisters all vote for democrats on occasion. All of my family is unhappy with Bush. To claim there are no liberals in Mormonism is just silly. Even in the leadership of the church there are open and proud democrats.

16. Being a Democrat doesn't mean someone isn't a Bigot
Just look around DU.

I just can't understand how someone can justify being a gay Mormon given their views on gays.

12. Getting out isn't as easy as resigning, but as an unrepentant sodomite,
I found it surprisingly easy. If fact they were more than accommodating, one might even say hellbent.

15. Actually it is
all you have to do is send a letter - the moment the church gets the letter, by law you are no longer a member and they have no authority over you.

the church has authority over your membership (thats really the only authority they have).
