Field Poll : Majority of California Voters Oppose Proposition 8
This is tremendous news. And if Obama can bring more and more new, younger voters to the polls, it's even better. I'm very optimistic this will be defeated. :-)

Field Poll: Majority of California Voters Oppose Prop. 8

The majority of California voters oppose Proposition 8, a proposed amendment that would ban same-sex marriage in the state, the Associated Press reported Friday.

According to the AP, the newly released California Field Poll survey found that 51% of voters will likely vote against Prop. 8, while 42% of voters support the proposed amendment. Democrats and Republican voters were starkly split on the issue, with 63% of Democrats indicating they would vote down the measure and 68% of Republicans saying they would vote for it. Independents rejected the ban 66% to 27%. The poll randomly surveyed 672 likely voters during the week of July 8-14.

The survey shows a change from 2000, when 68% of voters were in favor of Proposition 22, an amendment that supported the state’s 1978 ban on same-sex marriage.

The 1978 ban was overturned in May of this year, making same-sex marriages legal in the state of California. Proposition 8 was constructed in response to the new ruling. The Field Research Corp. surveyed a random sample of 672 likely voters during the week of July 8-14.

5. If you look at long term polling trends, time is in our favor
Over the last ten years there has been a fairly rapid and steady decline in support for these anti-gay 'marriage' amendments in CA.

6. It's misguided altogether.
Nobody should have the "right" to vote to deny freedoms of anyone but themselves. They have no prurient interest in the institution of marriage in the absence of enforcement of procreation and denial of divorce, and the government's argument that it has an interest for the purposes of procreation is absurd too given that all our pink parts work just fine should we CHOOSE to procreate, just like everyone else.

The bigger test for submitting a ballot initiative should first pass muster of vested interest. Everyone who wants to vote to give themselves or deny themselves the right to marriage should first muster as gay and have it put in the public record, under pain of perjury.

Then let's see these bastards lie cheat and steal in order to vote to take away our rights . . . tampering with an election, perjury, I'd be willing to recommend that we spay and neuter anyone caught lying. (hyperbole, not for realreal)
