California governor vetoes Harvey Milk bill
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has vetoed a bill that would have made the birthday of gay political icon Harvey Milk a statewide "day of significance."

In his veto message issued Tuesday, the governor said that while he respected the measure's intent, he thinks Milk's "contributions should continue to be recognized at the local level."

Conservative groups had lobbied Schwarzenegger not to sign the legislation, sponsored by Assemblyman Mark Leno of San Francisco.

Milk became the nation's first openly gay man to hold a prominent political office when he was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977.

He and Mayor George Moscone were assassinated by a fellow supervisor in 1978.

1. Fuck the Terminator.
Don't want to upset the homophobic!

Milk has an awesome movie coming out about him with Sean Penn in the role of Milk.

6. Sean Penn as Harvey Milk... I still have trouble wrapping my mind around that
I seem to remember that he had a little "problem" with homophobia not too long ago. Don't get me wrong, he is a great actor in the right role, and I've heard nothing but very good things about him in this one. Still, it is one of those things that make me go

:wtf:

10. You know, I don't remember
I did an internet search to refresh my memory, but couldn't find anything. Either I am blaming Penn for something someone else said, or it was a long time ago during his "bad boy" days.

In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing the movie.

4. Um, dumbass, Harvey Milk's influence extends beyond San Francisco.
That's why they're making a movie about Milk, asshole.

5. We all know that Harvey's legacy only touches the lives of gay people.
How on earth could straight people possible relate to Harvey Milk's example? Truly, Milk is just a regional phenomenon.

With a six-inch stiletto heel decorated in Swarovski crystal, or a steel-toed workboot covered in mud, either of which I saw this weekend at the Folsom Street Fair. It doesn't matter which.
