No on Prop 8 Donations near $1 million a Day.
I'll be sending another donation tomorrow. I get paid then and I only have a debit card. And besides tomorrow, I'll try to donate a few more times. This is so important.

No on 8 Donations Near $1 Million a Day, Money Needs to Keep Coming

In what the No on 8 campaign has confirmed will become a weekly call with LGBT press until the election, campaign director Patrick Guererro kicked things off with some good news. Since last week’s emergency media briefing, the campaign has managed to raise nearly $1 million a day to defeat the initiative to ban same-sex marriage.

“We hope, in the next couple of hours, to cross over the $20 million mark,” Guererro said, adding, “We literally need to keep up that pace everyday if we want to win.”

Guererro also announced that later on Tuesday, the campaign will reveal plans to film a public service announcement with Ellen DeGeneres, suggesting that the talk show host’s participation would do a world of good with voters.

“We received great news from Ellen that she’s been willing to film a PSA,” Guererro said before directly addressing questions from reporters as to whether or not DeGeneres had made a financial donation to No on 8.

“As of today we’re asking Ellen and every single LGBT person and ally to write a check.”

Guererro said the key to winning in November is in being able to get No on 8 ads on television as frequently as the opposition.

“When they see our ads and they see our opponents' ads, we win by five points,” Guererro said. “If they only see their ads, we lose.”

1. I am really hoping that the stressing of the bad polling was a fundraising tactic.
I knew that the no side wouldn't win in a landslide as some polls seemed to indicate several weeks ago, but I am hoping that the Survey USA poll showing a 5-point lead for the anti-marriage rights side was an outlier. I am hoping that the "no" side stressed it in order to motivate a complacent progressive and gay community to give more time, money and energy.

3. They say give till it hurts - so I did.
Worth every penny if it means that I can stay married to my husband.

4. Just because I don't live in California doesn't make it some abstract vote.
This would affect some people I like and care about.

10. Yep! I can't imagine how 11/4 will feel if we lose this vote
I wish Field Poll would put out some new numbers. They're the only CA poll I trust on proposition polling.

:hi:

5. I love you Terry ... thank you!!!!
On a side note ... I don't mean to be negative about this. But I'm VERY concerned. We are seeing a shit load of donations, but few ads.

Here's somethings I've seen personally.

When "8" was assigned to this issues it took MONTHS for the "No" side get going. It took longer to get merch out for people. MY sign and bump stickers are from Cafe Press.

My husband's boss (who's son is gay) has been trying for weeks to get a yard sign with no luck. I've been trying to get to the local office in my area to get one. They have been closed. He (boss o' husband) sent an e-mail and asked for a sign and noted on their site that "signs will be available after Sept. 8th." He wrote to them and got a real shitty response "can't you READ?" was the basic response. :wtf: This shit pisses me off.

7. I love you too, Ronny! My question is: how about Ellen DeGeneres? Neil Patrick Harris?
I appreciate Ellen making a PSA about no on Prop 8. But dammit...she recently got married. Does she not realize the stakes here? There's no special clause in Prop 8 that says "everybody's marriage except Ellen DeGeneres' will be invalidated". I don't know what the effects of Prop 8 will be if it's passed. I suspect that those marriages that have already taken place WILL be invalid. I mean, if marriage will strictly be defined as "one man and one woman".

I'll donate when I can. But dammit, some fucking rich people need to come to the plate here. Ellen can write a check for $100,000 on this. I KNOW she can. If she values her marriage to Portia, I hope she does. Ditto Neil Patrick Harris and other gay and lesbian celebrities. And our straight allies. For instance, I think Tom Hanks is a supporter of our community. He could donate to defeating Prop 8.

8. actually probably not
the closest on point cases are states which banned cousins from getting married and those which banned common law marriage. In both cases previous marriages that were legal when entered into, were still legal after the bans took effect.

9. I hope you're right.
No one really knows. I just took my interpretation from the wording of the amendment.
