The "Yes on Proposition 8" Profiteers

It’s important to understand how these people make their money. And make money they do. Each of the main promoters of this bigotry campaign may personally pocket as much as $10 million or more from the campaign. This article gives the rundown:

1. It's pretty smarmy the way people make such a business out of the people's business
It's hard to see how California runs better because of the initiative process. Sure, citizens then have and avenue to directly affect legislation, but it really works out that moneyed interests propose and then lavishly support propositions that run counter to the public good.

I know several of my local California Assemblymembers. None of them would propose anything remotely like Prop 8.

I'd rather go back to just electing our legislature to conduct our business and then hold them accountable. And if they do things we don't want and we don't hold them accountable, then shame on us.

As constituted, the proposal system sucks big time.

3. So the solution is to engage the populace, right?
Maybe this economic meltdown will engage us.

Don't want your house? Don't want your job? Don't want your retirement? You kids' education can go? Then bury your head in the sand some more and let Dubya, McSame, and the boys take care of it.

They'll trickle you down something.
