Californians: Was there any "Yes on 8" rhetoric about marriage existing for procreation? |
|
Maybe California needs to really protect marriage and file their own version of Washington's Initiative 957. ( text)

1. That's so twisted, it's kinky |
|
Makes me want to have sex without procreation.

2. If you do that, you couldn't get married |
|
Which is exactly the point. If marriage exists for procreation, then ALL people who cannot or will not procreate must be banned from marriage. If marriage has nothing to do with procreation, there there is absolutely no reason to ban same-sex couples.

5. And all previous marriages without children or with adopted children |
|
will be annulled, as well as those involving post-menopausal women or impotent men.

6. Yup, that is the way it was worded |
|
If marriage exists for procreation, and all the legal protections and benefits such as insurance, social security, etc. are given to married couples for the benefit of providing for the couple's natural children, then those who cannot or will not procreate have no business being married and should be prohibited from receiving said protections and benefits.
I really want to see how such a measure would fly in Fresno.

3. No, I don't recall any. It was mainly 'OMG they'll make our kids gay'. |

4. No, it was a "Think of the CHILdren" campaign |
|
With a little "our church's tax exempt status will be in jeopardy" mixed in for 'good measure'.

8. Were there ever any ads featuring the kids of same sex couples, who deserve |

to have their families recognized?

I had this exact idea, only a day or two after you. I posted in the GLBT forum as well as the California one, but I only got one response in each. What gives? :(

If they really want to protect "traditional" marriage, and children need a mother and a father then we simply must ban divorce.

12. Straight people LOVE their precious divorce. I say we enact Biblical laws of divorce to protect mar |
|
marriage.
A married couple can only get divorced because of adultery.
IF you get divorced, you cannot remarry as long as your ex is still alive.
FOR GOD's SAKE LET'S PROTECT THE SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE!

10. I heard a few people saying this |
|
I asked them..."What about people that are unable to have children?" They said, "Well, they can always adopt." "Well, so can gay people."
Some people I know are not the smartest.

14. This is often an argument against that gay marriage |
|
That marriage is for procreation, and since gays can't procreate (at least not without some technological assistance), they shouldn't be able to get married. Of course, as I'm in a childfree marriage, this chaps my ass to no end.

That measure...was beyond ridiculous
Actually, the whole thing is insane. Why the hell do people care so much who other people get married to? Jackasses.

16. Because the reich wing |
|
has taken a page out history and conflated gay civil rights with a whole host of lies designed to play on fears.
It's a disinformation tactic.

All your offspring are berlong to the state!!!!1!
The American breeding program for breeding Americans who breed. Who woulda thought we'd be so culturally invested in managing our gene lines. Why it sounds almost like that odd group back in the forties, what were they called again? The nazis?
Glad we're fighting for our freedoms, blah, blah, snore, to our zeitgeist. If America gets ugly enough, it ain't America any more so who cares.
Well, if breeding is the purpose, then I propose that we round up all the wenches in a wench draft and make them pop out 3.5 kids each before being released from duty. Since they'll otherwise be occupied with all the breedin' and birthin', I also propose that men everywhere are given the duty of raising those same children for the first 3.5 years of their lives, alone, without domestic help.
Day care coddles kids and probably gives them gay liberal cooties anyway. I mean, where DO those pesky gays come from? Clearly from gay parents.
What with all the various confusing religious messages we should also have a national religion: get rid of them Mary worshippers and we'll put in the Cleavers as the acme of civilization, with the Church of the Holy Beaver as the new vatican.
Procreation - I guess that means the only time anyone will be getting it in the butt is every four years when we have an election.

I understand this is not a funny situation but your post is anyway.
I love it. I have never been so happy to be post menopausal in my life.
Seriously, we have to do some real creative thinking because so far what we have done has helped a little but not anywhere near as much as I thought it might have given us. Maybe we should stop fucking around with the smaller stuff and shoot for the big stuff. The small stuff is important but they knock it down as soon as we get it up.
All these posts are so helpful, they start me thinking about what ideas I can take back to my group and toss around.
Edit for clarity
