Mormon involvement in Prop 8 and Mitt Romney |
|
Anyone else thinking that the mormon involvement in Prop 8 is related to a Mitt Romney 2012 Presidential bid? A way to legitamize a looked-down-upon religion (or rather a cult)with the Religious right? I've been doing some research on Yes on Prop 8 donors and I noticed MANY donated to the Romney campaign in primaries but not to McCain in the general election. Plus they donated to the RNC in prior years before Romney and the primaries, but not after Romney lost. Now why wouldn't these "good Republicans" (dripping with sarcasm) not want to give the Reublican Party any $$$ to help McCain's bid for the White House? My theory is they didnt want McCain in the White House because that would set up Palin for 2012. Palin is a huge threat to Romney and if McCain won the election it would have put her first in line for 2012 Plus there's the theory floating out there that it was Romneys people who started all the bad crap about Palin. Anyone?

2. The Mormon Establishment May Have Done the Opposite |
|
Given the furor they have created by getting into Prop 8 the Mormons may not be doing Romney a favor. They may have perhaps have sunk his hopes at a presidential bid.
A non-Mormon friend who is a BYU grad told me yesterday that a surprising number of young Mormons are leaving the church because of Prop 8. Mormons with family members who are gay are also disenchanted at the church's rigid stance. There are Mormons who have traditionally been Republicans who crossed over to vote for Obama this election, and still others including the owner of the Marriot chain of hotels who disavow anti-gay sentiments. Romney, being linked not only to the Mormons, but to Prop 8 may actually make him unelectable by association to Prop 8.

That doesn't really make sense considering the fucking thing passed in blue California. Romeny is a fucking tool though. Obama would cream him.

3. i absolutely think mormons jumped so happily on this bandwagon |
|
in a bid to legitimize themselves with the other fundies. i can't think of another instance of the relig. right working with the morons- up until know i thought christian and catholic fundamentalists viewed the mormon church as a crazy cult. the mormon church has always had a hard line on homo's but before this cmpaign, it was only exercised within the church, not the larger world. this is a seismic shift for mormonism.

6. Some of us had that same thought |
|
PropHate8= mittens + (palin? or who ever else) for 2012. We had that little thought in the early days after PH8 and I still think that the cults involvement was their bid to gain main line churches to accept/tolerate them as one of their own and the pawns were the peple who voted along with them and the scapegoats were of course: GLBTQ's http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=221&topic_id=89831&mesg_id=89831

he was sort of a throw away candidate at a time when public opinion was against the party in power.
They may hope to bring a new candidate with some distance from our exiting leader - Mittens remains unsullied by this last terribly ugly campaign as it was waged for the final months after the rnc convention made their pick.
