Too close to call Marriage Amendment in Kansas |
|
Wish us luck and anyone in the state should get to their closest phone bank, we can't let this pass and we are close to winning. :bounce:
Early this week Kansans for Fairness received results from a Statewide survey indicating the upcoming vote on the marriage amendment was TOO CLOSE TO CALL! We have a very good chance to defeat the amendment.
We MUST have GOTV(Get Out the Vote)callers on the phone Saturday thru Tuesday.
We will run phone banks at the KFF office at the Ramada Inn from 9AM to 9PM Sat. thru Tues in approx. 4hour shifts. 9-1/9-5/5/9
PLEASE sign up to hit the phones. All calls are to supporters who have been IDed, reminding them to VOTE. Your call could make the difference!!!! Please call the office 235-6660, my cell phone 221-6379 or email and let me know what time you will be making calls. We have a chance on this thing folks, let's not fail cause we didn't make the call.
Many thanks, Nancy Shaughnessy Field Manager Kansans for Fairness.org

1. Congratulations Kansas |
|
To be honest, I would have thought the thing was a given in Kansas. Too close to call in Kansas, duly noted.

I never thought we had a chance here either, the other side has tons of money, tons of advertising and we are just plugging along doing the grass roots thing. It is making a difference. Keep your fingers crossed.

2. are you imagining it will even be close at the ballot box? |

there's a pipe dream. elections like this aren't about what the public thinks, they're about what the small percentage of fervently committed people think. and guess which side of the moral ferver segment usually has greater numbers...
oregon passed a gay marriage amendment during the *general election* didn't it? how do you really think kansas is going to fare now?

5. I worked with the women |
|
who worked in Portland on that amendment. They were here to help us defeat the Phelps initiative on our city ballot. We won. You can give up on us but those of us here who are working out butts off to try to change things would appreciate encouragement. I sire hope I can come back here next week and say I told you so.

8. I just got home from doing |

door to door and I reread the post you responded to, sorry, I can't spell normally but when I do not have time to spell check I look like an idiot!
I wish I felt more confident, even with this poll. Honestly, even the rednecks I talk to in the feed stores think this is dumb and are voting against it. Ministers in the little churches around here are telling people they have to start thinking for themselves and not be swayed by all the one sided news. It almost feels worse than knowing you will lose. It seems a revolution is brewing, it feels that way but I am afraid it is still just a tiny bit early. When this state finally explodes it will be big. People out here are just plain getting sick and tired of all of this and I am crossing my fingers that it is not too early to be reflected in this vote.

9. I wonder if this has anything to do with.... |
|
people hating Phelps more than gays? Wouldn't it be rather funny if people supported gays simply to spite people like Phelps?
We should look into this. If this is the case, then we might be able to use Phelps to our advantage.

We were able to use it a little in The Topeka question vote. It ended up starting up a couple of groups who were as bad as the Phelps group but covered themselves in love, honesty and truth while spewing the same venomous crap. They were more difficult to fight because people like prejudice lots more if you sugar coat it. I would bet that we might get a few votes because of Fred but not many. The really interesting thing is that Fred has said nothing about this. His group still is out about 3 times a day but nothing has been said by them. We suspect he is being paid off by another church that is in Kansas City to keep quiet. I believe Fred himself has been in Colorado for the last few weeks keeping quiet.
