He mentioned a poll, a small one, of 500 people who voted FOR PHate8 and 90% said they would not vote for it today!
KO cautiously ( as that was just one small poll) concluded that the protests in California were working.
He also had Candace Gingrich of HRC on tonight. Yes, a real live open lesbian on TV, right before another one--Rachel!
They discussed her letter to her 1/2 brother Newton where in she told him to get with the times and stop using gay issues as a political football.
My times they are a changing!
Just wondering what others who saw the show thought?

1. I was cooking for Thursday, but did catch a lot of that. |

I think it is tremendous. I hope things are rolled back in a big way, although not a WalMart way.

2. This is a big change in media - having gays and lesbians |
|
talk about gay issues, for one thing.
The fact the KO remains stalwart and mentions the protests in a positve light is great, also.
Either he or Candace mentioned the folly of putting civil rights up for a popular vote and used a quote from Mr. Obama as to this being a civil rights issue.

3. I thought she was brilliant. |

Almost as good as Newt is bad.
I loved her last few comments. About bringing Newt around, she said "give it time". Or something. And made some kind of noise in frustration of how stupid people are.
Hard to believe she's his sister. Wow. But in a way it does give me hope. Because it almost indicates that even though two people can be so far apart, there is yet something about them that is actually quite close.
I looked at the sample size of that poll. It was 198, if I saw it correctly. A very small group. But, who knows. Maybe it is representative.

4. By having HIS sister on it shows his bigotry and ignorance |
|
just her mere presence discredits him.
Yeah, about the poll number, that I'm not sure either, my two dogs were anxious to play so I was in and out of the room.
I agree, she was very poised and articulate. :fistbump:
I think things are changing, said with "cautious hope."

I was glad to hear the news although I am still having trouble wrapping my brain around the idea it passed.

the idea that people do realize that they were wrong is hopeful. Not that human rights should ever be voted on again. Still, it's good news and a positive change.
Good for Keith for the coverage.

12. Candice doesn't deserve to be in the same sentence as Mary |
|
she was out and working for gay rights and against Newt from the early 1990's. She is no turncoat like Mary.

I'm really glad to hear about KO's informal poll.
Maybe I'm too nice, but do you think that a lot of people who voted for Prop. 8 simply didn't realize how damaging and hurtful their vote was?
I've gotten the sense that a lot of them just didn't understand the full implications of Prop. 8. I wouldn't have said this before the election, but with the amount of ignorance I've seen on various boards about sexual orientation and same-sex relationships, it appears that most Americans are still very much "in the dark" on human sexuality, especially when it comes to homosexuality.

13. I still think there is a lot of work to be done |
|
as far as the poll, it was a bit of bright news, but I haven't really seen the actual poll, and to get people to agree on someting by 90% is amost unheard of any poll about anything. LOL.
I see it as symbolic and something to work toward and as a sign of KO's committment to the cause that he mentioned us again.
