NAACP Supports Calif. Gay Marriage Bill
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/04/040505calNAACP.htm

The California Conference of the NAACP Tuesday announced its support for same-sex marriage. It is the first time that a state chapter has endorsed gay marriage - an issue that has generally divided African Americans.

The group narrowly voted to support marriage equality at its convention last fall but did not make its position public until today.

"In a place like California, you can not possibly work for rights if you don't work for gay rights," said Alice A. Huffman, California NAACP president. "You either believe in the rights of everyone or you are in the wrong business."

Thank you President Huffman!

1. I am bookmarking
this, thank you. That is one group we have not had any luck with here. Obviously we have not had any luck at all contrary to what we were led to believe up until last night.

We have been up against a brick wall trying to gain support with the NAACP but are trying. Thanks.

2. This statement bears repeating ...
"You either believe in the rights of everyone or you are in the wrong business."

While the Repugnantcans try to drive a wedge between blacks and gays (successfully in many parts of the country, unfortunately) it's great to see that at least some organizations understand that discrimination is always wrong and rights should not be granted on the basis of what group has suffered the most.

4. Thank you!
That is such a wonderful thing to hear this morning! Now, if we can get our government leaders to understand that upholding the rights of its citizens includes all of its citizens...
