And these assholes wonder why so many of us have problems with organised religion!

1. This won't go...
While he builds support among ex-gay activists for arrest and involuntary quack medical treatments, Kern in the meantime is said by the Gossip Boy blog to be teaming up with Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett to rid the city’s public libraries of accurate health, scientific, and therapeutic information about sexual orientation. According to James Miko and Wayne Fuller, the pair plan a campaign to “rid the library system of all gay and lesbian materials, as well as those their church-based philosophies find objectionable.”

No librarian worth his/her salt will stand for this. And the American Library Association will back him/her up...

2. And they also wonder why we
have CCH permits. Sane Oklahomans better hope to contain this insanity before it spreads.

Insanity does tend to spread. We need to start putting the cabosh on this shit before more gay and or our allies people get hurt or killed.

8. Y'know something, BlueDawg?
I was raised to be a patriot, to serve my country and community, to respect my neighbors and uphold the Constitution. All of it. As a veteran, I feel I have earned my rights, moreso than the 101st Chairborne Strangers in freeperland who sit on their ample arses, mouthing-off and cheerleading for war with a mouthful of Cheetos, never lifting a finger or endangering their precious hides, yet have the audacity to grab at my rights.

I've lived in some mighty rough places, but never owned a gun until I moved to the country. I was raised to fear no human walking. I still don't. But I do exercise my 2A right to possess in defense of my partner's canine assistant, who is his freedom to move about in the world. She's a gentle creature, adapted to a civilized indoor life. But let me tell you a story about what happened to my partner long ago before we met and why I will not put up with shenannigans from babble-thumping idiots bent on felony kidnapping and torture in the name of jahayziz. When I'm clearing brush on my property (we had some trees downed in a storm last summer I'm still cleaning up), I wear a pistol because jeebus knows what might have taken residence under it and I'm too old and fluffy to run from it.

Once upon a time, when my partner was young and living in Alabama, he and an ex of his had a good sized house that had an apartment in back. A good friend and co-worker of his, an African-American woman, was making a break from an abusive husband and needed a place to live. He said she could stay in the apartment with her child until they got their feet on the ground. They'd be safe there. So everyone thought.

The gawd-fearin' neighbors (all members of the local church) got wind and came wearing sheets (I shit you not) with wood laid out in a cross in the front yard. They hollered out that it was bad enough that quairs had moved into the neighborhood, now they were moving n*rs in. Two epithets in one sentence that didn't set well with him. (We don't use the n-bomb in our house, either.) He warned them off. He asked them to go. He said he recognized their shoes and the sheets didn't matter. He said they better not light that wood.

They did.

They got birdshot in them sheets for their trouble. Fine shot and light load is useful for making a point.

He got a $50 ticket for discharging a firearm within city limits. Worth it. He also wasn't bothered by those f'ers again, either. Sometimes you have to make your point firmly, especially when bullies grossly underestimate you at their peril. Always ask nicely. Then tell firmly. Do what you have to do. At last resort, then resort.

NC has a castle law. Any fools who are bent on felony kidnapping as described in the OP had best to think twice before they go around snatching people. They might get hold of the wrong one out there with a legal permit and get a hole in them. Just sayin' it could, might-maybe, possibly, theoretically happen, know'm sayin'? There are a lot of gay people with permits. A lot. I'm not sure how the law reads in your state, but in NC up-to-deadly force is permissible to stop the commission of a felony. Read and know the law and stay within it.

12.  HillWilliam - thank you for sharing those stories, we live in a crazy world
and being gay just increases the risk of mindless, sociopaths mistaking some one of us for a helpless victim, but as you said, they might just get a hold of the wrong one of us.

Usually these cowardly bullies attack in packs, I support legal means of self defense to equalize the odds. Unfortunately the law can't be everywhere and sometimes, when they arrive, it's too late for someone who was defenseless.

"101st Chairborne Strangers" I love it! You nailed the freeperland REMF's who mouth off.

4. I can tell you that we have a real problem in Oklahoma right now.
We were the reddest state in the union on election day, and we now have a repuke-dominated legislature and a Democratic governor who will be blocked on every side. I can almost guarantee you that we will have a repuke governor elected in 2010. It's a pretty scary thought, because they're really mean and nasty in this state.

I can guarantee you Cornett thinks he can be governor, but even if he doesn't run, there are dozens of people just dying to throw their hats into the ring, every one of them more bat-shit crazy than the other. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Sally Kern runs for governor herself, on the platform of cleaning up the state's "moral decay."

We just don't have a lot of viable Democratic candidates in this state right now--we need help!!!!!

6. How the f*ck do people actually get away with saying such things in public?
Is this unAmerican speech or what?

"Oklahoma Baptist Pastor Steve Kern, husband of notorious Oklahoma state Rep. Sally Kern, reportedly believes gay Americans should be incarcerated and forcibly “cured.”

“We have to get rid of that and start curing those sinners. It’s past time that this nation stopped placating sin and start putting them in education programs. Courts can force drug offenders into treatment centers and violent people into anger management. There’s no reason our courts can’t do that with homos.”

I know, he's just a douche private citizen theofascist, but his lovely wife is a public servant. She must be required to repudiate such language, as a public servant. The involuntary incarceration and forced medical treatment for a minority, let's see where has that happened before historically??

Oklahoma shame! What a hateful, discriminatory, climate for gay people to live in.

The spectrum of homophobia and hatred for gays in this country seems to span from moderate tolerance all the way to whacked out drooling crazy.

11. forcible cure and incarceration
for people smoking hemp has been accepted as fine all american talk since I have been old enough to remember, I am 29. The war on drugs set a lot of precedents. If you can incarcerate me and force a cure on me for grass why would it be wrong to do so for consensual adult sex?

13. Of course the hatefilled bigot overlooks the fact that there is no "disease"
to cure. Except maybe his paranoia.

16. Perhaps they are scared
of their own hidden homosexual desires. Or their own desires to put on their wifes lingerie, or something that is not "normal" yet turns them on. They repress their desires, become bitter, and try to hold back other people from fulfilling their desires.

10. Unbelievable.
Wow. That level of hateful ignorant bigotry is hard to find any more. At least being flouted in public by public officials that hope to get elected.

Let's work to ensure these yahoos don't get anywhere near power, okay?

14. They need to be exposed publicly, nationally and shamed
and any of the people that snicker and agree need to be made to understand that these are not American values.

Maybe someone like Keith O will name this douche the worst person in the world.

Some parts of this country are infested with a virulent bigotry that needs to be cured and public officials espousing their spouse's fascism should be frog marched out of office.
