4. Wait a minute. Doesn't the "Plan B" pill cause a fertilized egg to |

be destroyed? Wasn't that what the Stem-cell veto was all about? Can some one who speaks Fascist interpret this for me? TIA

Stem cell research - researchers wanting money from Government to invent permanent cures for conditions currently treated with expensive drug therapies developed by pharmaceutical companies. Plan 'B' pill - expensive drug therapy awaiting FDA approval to fatten bottomline of pharmaceutical companies. Any questions?

8. That's not how I understood the "morning after" pill to work. |
|
I understood that it would either not allow a fertilized egg to attach to the uterine wall or would detach an egg already attached. This is what I read months ago, I could have gotten it wrong. But if there is no fertilized egg the next morning, what does the pill do?

Plan B contains the hormone levonorgestrel, the same ingredient found in many birth control pills. Unlike an older product called "Preven," Plan B contains only a progestin- no estrogen, so it has fewer side effects (like nausea or menstrual changes)- and in fact it's safer than apirin.
Plan B works through three mechanisms
Principally, it preventing ovulation- though it also prevents fertilization (by altering tubal transport of sperm and/or ova).
In addition, it may inhibit implantation by altering the endometrium. Plan B is a contraceptive and cannot terminate an established pregnancy- meaning it DOES NOT interfer or have any effect on a fertilized egg that has implanted in a women's uterus (which is the medical definition of preganancy).
Although there's no way to know for certain- researchers generally agree that non-implantation of fertilized eggs is fairly common, and would probably happen anyway in a lot of cases regardless of whether emergency contraception was taken.
So- don't listen to the anti-choice groups on this and VERY wary of what you read in the corporate media. Neither of them have ANY respect for science- and they've BOTH proven time and again that they'll say anything- even if- ironically- their actions increase the number of unwanted pregancies and abortions.
If some Republican claimed the earth was flat- these people would go out of their way to find people who would back that up.

pro-choice. If the "Plan B" pill did, in fact, cause a miscarriage-like event to occur, and it was the woman's choice, I would have no problem with it, at all. I suppose the material I read months ago emphasized the inhibiting of fertilized eggs from implanting and that is where I found the discord between the Dictator's stem-cell veto and his support of this much needed medication. But thanks for the info.

and sorry for the typos- technically, I'm not allowed to post on this subject from work- though I do sometimes- so I proof less than my normal miserable self! LO>
Plan B has been studied extensively and does not cause miscaraiges- It quite literally has no effect once the fertilized egg is implanted.
Unfortunately- the far right has tried (rather successfully) to equate Plan B with RU 486.
Easy enough to do- with an entire propaganda oriented or at best "he said/she said" network behind you.

is going to get thrown a major "bone."
Against the reccomendation of its scientists (and in yet another incomperably stupid bit of policy making) the FDA is going to preempt (overturn) various state laws that allow access to Plan B directly from a pharmicist- regardless of age.
They'll placeace some restrictions on how Plan B will be sold- requiring ID for example- and maybe som other requirements
In doing so, they'll be denying emergency contraception to the most vulnerable population- teenagers- the very group who needs access the most and suffers the harshest consequences (as do the kids the born) from unplanned and unwanted pregnancies.
Of course- Republicans do the very same sort of thing with abstenance only "education" where they actually make whole communities pay to increase thier teen pregnancy and STD rates.
These people are a MENACE to the public health.
