My brother died yesterday after a long battle with cancer. The reason that he is dead at the age of 48 is that we do NOT have universal health care in this country.
Does anyone know of any group that is working on Universal Health care? I would like to add that as a place that people could make contributions in his name. That is one of the important issues about which he felt strongly.
Thanks for any information in advance.

1. You can contact the American Public Health Association |

as well as specifically the Spirit of 1848 caucus of APHA. They should be able to direct you to specific groups that would be appropriate for a donation.
I'm sorry for the loss of your brother.

I lost my mom last year to cancer. I am almost willing to bet that *'s bicycling buddy wouldn't have survived if he didn't have money/connections, either. Its a crime that the richest country in the world doesn't have the best health care for its citizens.

prairierose, I was moved by your post and joined this forum just to reply to you. I'm sorry for your loss, and I can't imagine what you must be going through. My heart goes out to you.
I would like to offer you some advice, if I may. Do not advocate universal health care; it is a terrible lie and a myth. I live in Sweden, which you may, or may not, has so-called universal health care. The media praise our system as one of the best, but the people who live here know otherwise.
I can cite countless articles of people dieing while waiting for treatment. Hospitals are closing everywhere, and those that remain open are losing vital services like the ER and birthing facilities. Not only that, the services are sub-par, far worse than the level of care you get in the US.
I could go on forever, listing facts and details, but I don’t think that’s what you need to hear in your time of grief. When you’re feeling better, however, come back here and I’ll tell you the truth about socialized medicine.
