Is there more SIDS at Christmas-time?
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

Anytime you see syndrome or idiopathic ...
does it mean the cause is unknown, though the condition is recognized?

Anyway, there is a commonly used chemical in paint and cleaning products ... it's in lots of things ... that can expose another, indirectly, quite easily. That's my opinion based on the second hand exposures I have heard of. It is 2-butoxyethanol; sometimes complex versions such as diethylene glycol monobutyl ether.

At Christmas families get together in large groups, and of course, families want to show off the new baby; hold the new baby. Well, if someone has been recently exposed to this chemical, they can breath it into the eyes of the little one. Baby may start coughing; baby may have diarrhea and vomiting but be in good spirits and happy and cheerful; flu-like symptoms without it being the flu.

This chemical could cause the body to shut down (Sort of like the troops in Iraq with 'chemical pneumonia') First the liver, then other organs; and of course, one would stop breathing. Or, if not, there could be some serious health consequences in the future ranging from any of the 'gulf war syndrome' or CFS symptoms to learning disabilities ...

Are babies each year being exposed to n-butyl ether? Such as this baby? www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=222&topic_id=88#277

Same thing as SIDS? ... Oct 11, 2000 by Jody Crockett, "I am JDC4058. I served in the storm bravely and honorably ...http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=222&topic_id=88#276

Could this be the same thing, only an older child? This gulf war vet shares about his 10 year old daughter who died last December: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=222&topic_id=88#134

This is a chemical (solvent, pesticide, poison) that gulf war troops were exposed to www.valdezlink.com/same.htm And many others in our nation since the 1930s www.valdezlink.com/hi.htm

Do you think putting a little baking soda in baby's bottle would help stop any acidosis or diarrhea?

More info on this chemical:
... & exposure is mist of someone's breath whose been exposed ... into the eyes of another

will show up quickly ... 15 minutes later.

Medical Surveillance:

Consider the points of attack (liver, kidneys, lymphoid system, skin, blood, eyes, respiratory system) in placement and periodic physical examinations.
**PEER REVIEWED**

2-Butoxyethanol causes acute hemolytic anemia in rats

In F344 male rats, 2-butoxyethanol causes severe acute hemolytic anemia resulting in significant increase in the concentration of free plasma hemoglobin. Secondary to the hemolytic effects, 2-butoxyethanol also caused hemoglobinuria as well as histopathologic changes in the liver and kidney.

*Notes to Physician:

Administration of Sodium bicarbonate may be of value to treat acidosis. Monitor kidney and liver function and arterial blood gases closely.

Symptoms of chemical exposure in the first place
... (and ethylene glycol monobutyl ether in particular?) www.valdezlink.com/inipol/pages/symptoms_print.htm

This is very helpful information on the 'retic ratio' being important ... especially when close to initial exposure; something to monitor, for sure: www.valdezlink.com/why_fatigue.htm

and here is some more research that should interest your doctor

www.valdezlink.com/generic.htm#research

By the way, if I was looking for a babysitter, I would put on the application form (or keep in the back of my mind) that I wouldn't want one with chronic fatigue syndrome which might cause baby to cough & get 'the flu'
