CDC reports " vaccination rates have stayed at or near record levels"

Most U.S. Kids Getting Recommended Vaccinations

More than 77% are fully inoculated, federal officials say By Steven Reinberg HealthDay Reporter

THURSDAY, Sept. 4 (HealthDay News) -- The vast majority of American children are getting their recommended vaccinations, federal health officials said Thursday.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, immunization rates remain at or near record levels, with at least 90 percent coverage for all but one of the vaccines in the recommended series for children.

The CDC's 2007 National Immunization Survey also found that 77.4 percent of children have been fully vaccinated with all the recommended vaccines, with no differences for any racial or ethnic groups. And less than 1 percent of children have not received any vaccinations by ages 19 to 35 months.

..."There is still a vaccine coverage gap in poor children compared with others," Schuchat said. "The good news this year is that the gap between those children living in poverty and other children is narrowing. So, we are making progress, but we are not finished with all the work we have to do," she said.

2. Yes, thankfully the anti-vaccination rhetoric hasn't made a serious dent... yet.
What we are seeing, however, is the kind of thing that's already been reported: epidemics in clusters of unvaccinated individuals, such as religious groups or whatnot.

6. coverage is at an all-time high. so whatever "pockets" of unvaccinated
exist, they contain fewer members than in previous years, qed.

but keep talking up the legions of unvaccinated fundies endangering everyone.

8. It's a common problem,
confusing absolute numbers with percentages. It is especially common when confusion is used to bolster a weak argument. It is especially ineffective when it is followed by QED.

9. coverage is at an all time high, both % wise & in absolute numbers.
i guess your degree in health physics makes you an epidemiologist, as well as an immunologist, statistician & logician.

i understand perfectly well.

Period 1: 200 people, 70% coverage = 30% unvaccinated (= 60 individuals)

Period 2: 250 people, 80% coverage = 20% unvaccinated (= 50 individuals)

Period 3: 300 people, 90% coverage = 10% unvaccinated (= 30 individuals)

1970 US population: 203 million

1990 US population: 248 million

2007 US population: 303 million

12. Too slick by half!
You have moved the goal posts again.

Now you are just counting "target age group".

Shuffle those numbers and come up with some other tricks.

You're funny!

14. % of the target cohort vaccinated each year is how CDC determines coverage.
Edited on Fri Sep-05-08 11:15 PM by Hannah Bell
That's where the % coverage in the original article comes from.

try again.
