Study links diabetes 1 and coeliac |
|
Type 1 diabetes and the food intolerance disorder coeliac disease appear to share a common genetic origin, UK research suggests.
The genetic similarities are such it suggests they may also be triggered by similar environmental factors.
This raises the possibility that the protein gluten, already known to cause coeliac disease, may also trigger type 1 diabetes.
The study appears in the New England Journal of Medicine. Type 1 diabetes causes the body to attack the beta cells of the pancreas, limiting its ability to produce the insulin necessary to regulate blood sugar levels.
In contrast coeliac disease attacks the small intestine.
However, both conditions are the result of a malfunctioning immune system.

5. His seems to be very mild |
|
but given what he probably eats, the link to diabetes isn't good. He's probably very prone.
He seems to have just about everything else wrong with him. He's anemic, has back pain from an extra vertebra, can't drive because he has depth perception issues, is allergic to almonds and cats...

3. Both are autoimmune diseases |
|
Like my Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Unfortunately once you get one, you are much more likely to get others. :(
All week I have been watching a very interesting series from France called "When Animals Sound the Alarm" -- the load on our bodies from pesticides, heavy metals, etc. is responsible for most of the destruction to our immune systems. So many creatures had genetic changes: tiny spiders, bees, frogs, birds, cattle. And the animals were collected and studied all over the world. :(
No place is safe, unfortunately. We are killing ourselves (and every other species) slowly but surely. I am also convinced that these endocrine disruptors are responsible for the rise in depression, asthma, ADHD, etc., they addressed this in the show.

4. I'm celiac and before I switched to a low-glycemic diet, was in the beginning stages of diabetes. |
|
I eat a high-fat diet now and all my blood tests-including my cholesterol-are perfect. I also have a thyroid condition so it wouldn't surprise me if all of these automimmune diseases are related. I also ate a ton of soy when I was a vegetarian, so that could have thrown me into hypothyroidism too.
