Who rammed a bill through Congress?? |
|
Some interesting facts about the bill for Medicare Part D:
It was 600 pages long. It was submitted to the House floor on a Wednesday and voted on by the House at 2:30 AM the following Friday - 2 days later. Did they "read the bill"? It bypassed all committees and had 3 hours of debate on the House floor before being voted on. It went to the Senate and was passed the same day that they received it. In total, it took 13 days from when the bill was presented to when it was passed. Oh, and it wasn't funded. It added directly to the deficit.
On the other hand, here are some facts about the various bills in Congress for health reform:
The bill in the Senate has been through several committees, and is currently in the Senate finance committee. The bill in the House has been through more committees than the Senate bill There has been a month where members of Congress have been able to meet with constituents and answer questions. There will be several more months before the bills are voted on. The president has said that it must be deficit neutral.
But, President Obama is the one who has been accused of trying to ram a bill through Congress.

1. Excuse me - the deficit?? |
|
Excuse me, do you realize that people who have Part D PAY for it? It's not like the government is giving that away, unless it is subsidizing part of it. (Does anyone know if the latter is the case?)
What Part D is adding to is BigPharma profits, since thanks to the Repuks and Blue Dogs, under Part D, unlike private insurance companies, the Part D plans are prohibited from negotiating lower prices for the meds.
That also means seniors who fall into the donut hole and wind up paying 100% are stuck with the higher prices too.

3. Yes, the deficit. The premiums for part D only cover about 25% of the cost. |
|
The government has to cover the other 75%.

2. And... if you watched that vote |
|
It was sickening. They voted once and didn't have enough to pass it. Then Junior Republican members of the House started changing their votes. Three hours later, they finally had enough to make it pass and then closed the vote.
That was truly "ramming the bill through congress".
There must be a video out there somewhere...

He put his strong arms on the Reublicans who didn't want to vote for it. It was truly a sickening sight. That's the way Bush's Congress passed laws. Compare to ours.
