Here's a question for anyone on Medicare/Medicaid/VA healthcare: |
|
What does it cost you for a 30-day prescription for pravastatin (the generic equivalent of Pravachol)?
I seem to remember that the Medicare bill passed a few years ago forbade Medicare from bidding out the cost of prescriptions in order to get a lower rate.
I'm wondering what the going rate is, because my hubby gets his pravastatin at Walmart for $4/30-day prescription.
Just curious what that Medicare bill may be actually costing people who are served by Medicare.
Thanks!

2. With Medicare Part D the amount you copay depends on your income |
|
People with lower incomes are subsidized to a greater extent than people with higher incomes. However, the maximum copay is 15%, not to exceed $56. I think those numbers are out of date though and it's slightly more now (Medicare is adjusted for inflation every year).

4. With Medicare: it all depends. |
|
Some have and pay for Part D. Some don't. If you have Part D, it all depends which (private) insurance company you've chosen that year out of the ones that are available in your location. Some will pay for some meds and not others; how much-depends. Medicare Part D is a Rube Goldberg contraption intended to provide some prescription coverage without having allocated any money for it and without offending private insurers. We can and must do better.
