I don't listen to reports that Olympia Snowe backs "some kind of public option," because she doesn't |
|
A trigger is not a public option. It's the threat of one, and we don't know the terms.
The public option all of us want --Snowe will fight against. She has never said she will support anything more than a trigger.

1. A trigger is a trick - designed to give cues to health insurance companies as to |
|
when they are in danger of facing the threat of a public option, and gives them time to back off until the heat moves on. Presto - no public option ever.

But her constituents are. If the final bill contains a robust public option and she votes against it she will have to answer to them.

4. She's used to making these tiny symbolic gestures |
|
which up to now seem to have appeased Maine's uninformed voters. I'm hoping that this time she's misjudged her constituents. Mainers need health insurance and we don't have it. It's time for Snowe to do the right thing, the truly right thing for the people and not for her party.
I'm not holding my breath, however.

5. I heard a bit of an interview with her today... |
|
She said she was against a public option because it would require a massive new expensive and inefficient government bureaucracy. Grrrrrr.
