The study of energy is of course central to the study of science and so any division of the two topics is necessarily artificial and cumbersome.
Likewise biology, ecology, meterology, toxicology, atmospheric chemistry are all sciences.
Sometime we went quite sometime without new threads even under the old system, so I really can't see why the division, at least in this case, was necessary.
