Redheads feel less pain.
-snip-

For reasons that have yet to be understood, women with red hair appear to be more resistant to pain compared to women with other colors of hair, and men, a scientist said yesterday.

1. contradicting article in JAMA a few years back
... that states that redheads are actually more sensitive to pain (especially during dental work for some odd reason) and tended to need more anesthetic.

I'm a redhead, so personal experience leads me to believe the JAMA article.

I'll do a google and see if I can find it ...

5. We can be both-
Insensitive to pain and also require more anesthesia. Does anybody tolerate surgery without drugs? What level of pain are they talking about?

Redheads require more anesthesia than anyone. I had surgery a couple of years ago and they had to anesthetize twice before proceeding. This was surgery on my toe and the doc had given plenty- when he started to cut I almost popped him one. Have had the same experience at the dentist.
