3. how unusual is this?
seems the biggest was a 6.1 and almost all of the rest between 4.1 and 4.7 or so.
I am no expert in any of this so i'll rely on your conclusions....

4. That's not that out of the ordinary...
The largest of those quakes is a 6.1, they're all in earthquake zones, and many of them would have been too weak to feel if you're 100 km from the epicenter...

They would make a 3 minute segment on the local news...

5. the echoes throughout the molten magma cause itty bitty ones
this is no surprise. If we did not live on a active tectonic-based molten rock, we would have no electromagnetic field deflecting the worst of the sun's radiation. if we did not have a protective magnetic layer, deflecting most of Sol's most harmful rays, we'd be dead.

The upshot? From volcanoes we get life. Then again, we also get volcanoes and earthquakes as a result. Rejoice at our good fortune and hope the magma does NOT COOL down and solidify.

8. We're not on a tectonic-based molten rock....
The mantle is plastic, but it is not molten. The outer core is liquid, but that's way down there and that's not what the plates ride on. And earthquakes don't echo throughout molten magma. Earthquakes can change stress fields in adjacent areas of a fault. This happened quite often after the tsunami-quake, where areas along the fault-line adjacent to previous quakes experienced new quakes.

12. You believe what you want. I believe this rock was created 6,012 years ago
that the grand ditch was dug out by his blessed fingernail, that apes were created to give evil evolutionists fits, that my sunroof will allow rapture to occur without exceeding the PD deductable on my insurance policy, that George Bush is next to holiness, that women belong in the kitchen or bedroom, but not in the classroom, that children must be taught early never to question anything the good book says, that every word in inerrant, that liberal scum abortionists, homosexual evolutionists, child-abusing free-thinkers, moderates, democrats and liberal republicans will fry for their sins, that the good book says that marriage is between one christian male and another christian female, that beating your kids is fine if they question creationism, that only 144,000 will be saved, that the earth is the center of the universe, that science is the plaything of Satan, that the good book instructed us to support israel and invade Iran and Iraq, that lightning is his way of showing displeasure, that enjoying sex is a mortal sin, that if your sperm hits the floor you will die, unless your three daughters get you drunk in a cave and force you to impregnate them after their husbands die, that

on second thought,

DinoBoy, your description is much more accurate than mine and I stand corrected.

But you cannot deny that the deepest regions inside the earth rotate and cause a wonderfully protective magnetic field to exist - much like a EM condom for the surface of us weaklings. I do disagree about the echoes, though. Attended an interesting talk by some midwest geologists who now think that the forces, shock waves and energies are transmitted, and echoed throughout, though at different rates based on the densities.

16. The stresses can be transfered through the crust
especially laterally along a fault. Echoing across the globe causing earthquakes elsewhere.... I doubt it, but would be interested in a ref if you've got one :-)

18. The Holy Bible never lies!
GAWD created the entire universe a little over 5,000 years ago. According to Exodus, it is the Sun and all the constellations that revolve around the world. The Bible says so, so I believe it so!

All of our thoughts and emotions come from our souls, the brain is irrelevant!

Praise be to GAWD!

how miniscule MSM "news" is when you realise how many things are happening everyday that we never hear about.

13. (Takes a stand and preens) "We had one 10.6 (or something
close) and we win! BWAHA! Beat that!"

(Not that anyone would want to, I am sure.)

RV, still preening madly over our state's one great rockin' party

17. Feh! Try living in Arcata, California
In the two years I was a student at Humboldt State University (no, there is no school of agriculture), we were having upwards of 20 a week. They were so common that they were reported only in the weekend edition of the Eureka newspaper. As part of a regular feature column.
