'Aliens could attack at any time' warns former MoD chief'
Edited on Fri Nov-10-06 11:17 AM by Wilber_Stool
One incident which persuaded him of the existence of alien lifeforms was in 1993. There were reports of a "vast, triangular-shaped craft" spotted flying over RAF bases in the West Midlands.

"Most of the witnesses were police and military personnel," he said.

"Hundreds of members of the public also had sightings over a period of several hours."

In another incident in 1980 at RAF bases in Suffolk, staff investigated a suspected plane crash after bright lights were reported coming from nearby woods.

They found a kind of lunar landing module standing on three legs which then flew off. The indents it left in the ground were found to emit ten times the normal levels of radiation. Mr Pope said: "These sort of incidents are why I got so frustrated.

I've been particularly interested in the incident at the RAF base. I've read about and seen several docs on TV and to see and hear the participants interviewed, well, they didn't seem to be easily fooled wackos.

On edit, maybe I should have put this in the skeptics group. Oh well.

On re-edit, a link would help:

On re-re-edit, here's the google search for the Suffolk UFO.

4. Old news for those of us..
...who are interested in the subject. But I think the writers of the story are taking liberties with what Nick Pope is saying. I've never heard him suggest the the UK is going to be attacked by aliens... If they were going to attack you figure they would have done it already. And yes, the Rendlesham forest incident is one of the more credible UFO sightings. There's better ones though (all of which involve military witnesses or airlines).

As to topics like this, I think there needs to be a subforum where they can be discussed seriously and without ridicule. The skeptics group is not that place. There's some kind of astrology group, but that doesn't work either.

5. If there is
Technology here is moving quickly and humans are severely flawed intellectually, yet we have the power to devastate life on our earth. Any advanced military out there, from anything with a greater intellect and more developed knowledge would be able to defeat us pretty much instantly if that was their intent.

Of course it's possible, but a waste of effort to worry about. Oh and for the skeptics, life is as inevitable as the formation of matter. Believing earth contains the only life in the universe is up there intellectually with believing that it only rains in one area of the earths surface at a time. The only thing to be skeptical of is others claimed knowledge of the specifics.

6. There's probably life out there ...
... but I'm not sure it's the kind of life that would fly at least 4.5 light-years just to roger a few farmers or play spirograph in our crops.

If they can really get here from wherever, we'd better hope they're friendly, because we don't know how to get anywhere from here.

7. most skeptics
of ufos are skeptical about alien life. they are skeptical that alien life that has the power and ability to fly from light years away to here would likely have little reason to come here, and would be able to come up with some effective stealth tech if they did so that they didnt light up the sky like a christmas tree.

Id guess they also might master the ability to use anesthesia before abducting someone. ;)

10. Maybe a Fortean Studies group?
A group for people who are willing to consider the possibilities without submerging into outright derision of the other side. A place where someone can bring up, for example, ancient astronauts and where that can be actually discussed instead of just shouted down (For the record, I haven't seen any arguments that sway me towards ancient astronauts or pre-Ice Age high-tech civilizations, but I do enjoy talking about it).

psychedelic drugs didn't end in the '60s, they merely outsourced them to other countries.

That must be it. Otherwise why assume that the aliens are violent and "might attack"?

13. A military base in the middle of the English countryside?
They usually fly secret aircraft where people can't see them. Especially during the cold war.
