Creationist lawsuit in Michigan
Saw this over the Panda's Thumb:

The Thomas More Law Center, the same legal group defending the school board in Dover, PA, is threatening to file a lawsuit against the Gull Lake Public Schools for telling two junior high science teachers that they could no longer teach creationism in their classrooms. Michigan Citizens for Science, an organization whose board I sit on, has been involved with this case for several months behind the scenes, since being notified of what was being taught there by a parent whose child was in the class. That parent is a biologist and was shocked when his daughter brought home not only pro-ID material, but young earth creationist material as well, including classroom material claiming that the Grand Canyon had formed in a single year as a result of Noah's flood. The parent contacted us and we made contact with the Gull Lake administration, the school board and the teachers. We worked to resolve the situation without the bounds of the law and responsible curriculum standards, even holding an in-service day with the teachers to show them the lack of scientific credibility in the material they were using.

In brief, the teachers are threatening a lawsuit because their academic freedom (to teach nonsense?) is being infringed. They're likely to lose, which is probably the intention.

OH FUCK ME!!

Those teachers should go to jail, or at least be banned from teaching FOREVER. They can go become priests or something!

3. Priests?
Please, I was taught in Catholic grade school and high school. Never once did they teach this _JUNK_ science. It's not the catholics who spew such trash.

No this Junk science is for other "christian" religions. I imagine you find out what Religion Tom Delay is and you'll have found a religion that spews this trash.

If you want to find the other idiots just follow the lead idiot.

2. LOL the Grand Canyon
was made in a single year from Noah's flood? That's halarious.

I suppose the great lakes are from God's great tear and not glaciers.

I personally wouldn't want these teachers teaching my kid anything. If they have such a weak understanding of basic science how can they be relied upon to teach a child anything at all? If parents started demanding that their kid NOT be in any class taught but these morons then perhaps things would change.

4. amazingly stupid...
there is NO way that a worldwide flood would etch out the Grand Canyon.

NO Way. Even if you assume the Flood happened, just as it said in the bible, there is NO way that 40 days of rain carved the Grand Canyon.

It's so stupid, it's almost as if there is can be no response to it.

8. not only did the flood etch out the canyon
it deposited every one of those layers, complete with "hydrologically sorted" fossils first.

5. How quickly until the case is booted?...
Obviously, the Thomas More Law Center prefers an activist Court that would overturn well established precedent....

Epperson V Arkansas (1968)
McLean v Arkansas (1981)
Edwards v. Aguillard (1987)

7. sorry assholes, but your job is to teach *science*
Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 01:01 PM by enki23
not to teach the bullshit rationalizations of your religion. nice try though. you can still teach the kids whatever you like when you aren't acting as a representative of the government. say, in baptist parochial school, sunday school, after school, on the street corner. whatever. just not in class, comprende?

but no, they clearly don't comprehend. they're dumb enough to buy the bullshit in the first place.

9. Noah's flood explains trail of Kangaroo fossils from Turkey to Australia
Still, if the Kangaroos can get back to Australia, I wonder why the snakes never made it back to Ireland?
