Michael Tomasky's Friday Science Quiz |
|
Fun test and more advanced than what passes for science reporting over here: 1. Copernicus first posited that the earth revolved around the sun back in 1543. This was of course highly controversial and went unproven until 1610, when Galileo Galilei made what confirming discovery? a. That Jupiter had moons like the earth's b. That the earth's moon had phases c. That the earth's orbit was ellipticalThe rest; http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/michaeltomasky/2010/jul/16/usa-friday-quiz-discoveries

One of the commenters said, paraphrasing, that it's really more of a history test. I think he's right. If MT had asked about the mechanics of these discoveries, then I'd have a harder time.

you're right.
But I wonder how many of us Amis can recall or reason out these things off the cuff?

maybe I have a good memory. Or maybe I can recall this stuff because I continue to educate myself outside the academic setting. Science has always been interesting to me and I cannot fathom how people that live in and advanced technological society do not know and have no interest in the subject of science. Then again I may be biased as a computer technician.
