Warning... Outdoor Life actually means Outdoor DEATH |
|
I went to the Outdoor Life forum because I *love* camping, hiking, canoeing, trail running, biking... just being outdoors - in nature - enjoying wildlife & all of nature's bounties.
Since when did "Outdoor Life" actually mean "hunting & fishing only"??? OMG! How *horrible* they are over there!!! All talking about guns, fishing, hunting & how nice it is to have a forum without the "PETA police"... :grr: :grr: :grr: :grr: :grr:
What the hell is wrong with having a "Hunting & Fishing" or "Gun Owners" forum for those people? Now I don't dare go into Outdoor Life because they post their murder pictures there.

I work for an outdoors publication, but it's all about trophy hunting. And these hunters call themselves outdoorsmen or sportsmen. I see nothing sporting in killing animals.
And please don't flame me for working there. It's a job and they are sort of hard to come by nowadays.

2. I know. They should call it for what it is. |

They use the broad term "Outdoor Life" to encompass everything outdoorsy. It's a front! It would be like us vegetarians calling ourselves "The Food Group."

4. LOL - that's a good analogy!! |
|
Maybe all of us should band together & request that they split that forum into two groups? "Hunting & Fishing" and "Nature Lovers" or something...
While I think hunting & fishing is absolutely horrifying, I cannot deny someone else their right to engage in those activities (damn my liberalism), so I agree that they SHOULD have their own space. I just don't feel that it belongs in a group that also covers non-violent outdoor activities... especially with the large number of vegetarians, vegans & animal rights folks we have here at DU!!!

Thankfully I didn't see any pictures, but they certainly weren't holding back the Peta bashing urges in the 3 or 4 posts I looked at. I agree with the sportsman comment. No, sorry. Preying on and murdering a defensless animal is not a sport, nor have you accomplished anything by doing it-other than wrecking your own karma. I'm sorry, but I have a serious problem with hunting.

6. Don't be sorry. I have a problem with it, too. |

And, would you believe, my job entails reading every word of the hunting and fishing articles word for word. The fishing stories aren't so bad, but the hunting ones are too graphic.

These Groups are intended to be safe havens for people with specific beliefs and interests, and we do not want them turning into warring camps.
