Well guys, I'm trying to nudge an intelligent discussion at the above DU link. I may have screwed up? But, happy news, no No's....!

3. Catchawave, I hate to tell you this, but I will probably avoid your posts
from now on. No offense is intended. You're not going on my ignore list.

I can't look at things like the photo of the slaughtered cow that you posted.

:hi:

BTW I voted "yes," of course.

Makes a point, that's for sure.

8. Thanks for the heads up.
Those types of photos haunt me for days & bring out my worst misanthropic feelings, which I have worked years to get under control. "I'd like to buy a gun & 6.7 billion bullets, please."

9. As of right this minute, things look very good.
78 votes total.
66-7, which is 85% yes. That's really pretty good. I can accept that folks feel certain ways about certain topics. The big ones are usually the easy ones, like fur. Many draw the line at their diet. While they'll cringe and cry at the sight of a downer cow, or rage against an image of a calf in a veal crate, they'll not give up their babyback ribs. While I detest the idealogy behind "I detest fur, but veal tastes sooooo good!" I do understand where they're coming from, sort of. Sure, it doesn't make me happy, per se, but I must say that I'm impressed with some of the comments, and I hope to see more folks, new folks, head to our little Group down here.

Thanks, Catchawave for this post in GD. You have to build a bridge before you can ask people to take sides.

Jeez, that should be on a t-shirt...

That should be on a t-shirt!

Actually, 85% -- that's great. I'm afraid to say it and jinx it, but damn. That's really great. I would have expected all the anti-animal rights people to jump on that and spam the poll.

I think the constant discussion of animal rights and all its many issues *does* have a positive effect around here.

Edit: missed a word for writing with too much enthusiasm. :D

12. Yes, 85% means......
...many DUers are pro-Veg/AR supportive, maybe public (Lounge? GD? GD-P?) DU polls could help us more?

Also, while I hate to offend anyone, sometimes it's important to post "meat your meat" sorta links? I hate them too, but it's reality, isn't it

13. Sometimes it's necessary.
Last time the meat threads in the Lounge started up again, I was thinking somebody should post a corresponding slaughterhouse photo every time somebody posted a juicy slab of meat photo.

That ought to make them think twice.
