1. Oh my God.
I read all of Marguerite Henry's books as a kid. I loved horses more than life.

You're so lucky!

2. I will be taking TONS of photos.
I will post them all here! I can't wait. My great aunt and uncle live in Chincoteague, and this will be my first visit!

6. Yup.
I've even still got some of those Breyer horses around. My sister and I collected them all, and would get jealous over each others'. Ooh...trips to the toy store, salivating over the Breyer's statues. If only it were that easy to find happiness now. :)

9. Me too, I loved them
and I went to Assateague a very long time ago (1974) and my husband and I camped there and woke up with the sunrise to go look for the ponies.

Good memories :-).

4. It's beautiful there, but...
I'm curious what your thoughts are of the swimming of the ponies...I honestly don't know how most in the animal crowd perceive it. My friend's sister just bought a house near there and heard that some ponies drown in the swim. Is it generally pretty humane, or...?

It's lovely there though, I am jealous :)

5. OMG.
I hope that is not true
I will ask my aunt and uncle about it. They have lived there forever.
That is awful :(
However, they are wild, so they swim on their own, too. I don't know, but I will be checking that out.

7. I live here and didn't even know about it.
I've never even been to the Eastern Shore.

If you like that sort of thing, you should definitely check out the Back Bay Wildlife Refuge in Virginia Beach. They have wild horses, wild boars, eagles, and so on. It's about a nine-mile stretch of untouched beach, dunes, and woods.

8. Oh my....
That is on my list of places to go now. Sounds right up my alley. I will take those kinds of places over a "party" beach anyday. Seriously. I am going to look Back Bay up now! Thanks!! :yourock:

10. Link...
http://www.fws.gov/backbay/

I've spent an entire day there back in my more outdoors-ey days, and still didn't even see all I wanted to.

13. Ahhhh...my childhood in pictures!
We spent many a summer vacation camping on Assateague. My last trip, I witnessed a foal being born...it was really something. I have found them to be pretty tolerant of some attention but just be careful because they are still wild.
