That's it, I'm out of here.
I can't BELIEVE some people on that kitten thread, I truly cannot! One person said he wouldn't spend "a nickel to save one of his cats" because they're "disposable"! Another person said it was "the same as putting your pet to sleep". Right. No, you're right. It's exactly the same. :eyes:

This is the last friggin' straw. I've had it. I thought coming to DU was my only true safe place to be around progressive-minded people, but I've met some of the most shallow, insensitive, pompous, selfish assholes here who just sit and try their hardest to justify behavior like this (my guess is they get some sort of kick out of the "shock" value of saying something different on an issue that 99% of DUers would agree is deplorable). I've debated some pretty fascist Young Republicans over the years who were far more sensitive to animals than some people on here. I just can't understand why some "progressive" people are so selfish whenever animals are brought up. There's always some jackass who feels the need to chime in and say something *completely* inflammatory just to shock people, hurt feelings, and start an argument.

I need to leave for work at the shelter now, so I can deal with even more selfish assholes who think animals are "disposable." And why not!? Because there's always people like me (and you guys) to pick up the pieces for their irresponsible and selfish behavior. You get a puppy from a puppy mill, then when it gets sick/grows up/pees on the carpet because you think it's okay to take him out once a day/growls at your kid who pulls its tail constantly, you just dump them off at a shelter and try again. Repeat, repeat, repeat. And bonus points for allowing them to breed by accident (or better yet, breed them intentionally to another puppy mill dog, then when you realize you can't make oodles of money off the puppies, THEN dump them at the shelter). I love all my kitties, but I shouldn't have to have 7 indoor cats and 7 outdoor cats because people are so fucking stupid (pardon my language). And I shouldn't have all the bunnies I do because people got Easter bunnies for their kids and then throwing food in its dish twice a day got to be "too much" and "just give them to Melissa, she'll take them!"

I've had it...I need to take a DU break for awhile - you guys are the only ones I will miss. Hopefully I'll be back before 7 months passes like the last time I left for this same reason :-(

1. Nooo!
Please dont go!
Just take the night to cool off. I did the same thing about 2 months ago and was back a few days later. This group rocks! It won't be the same without you. Please reconsider okay? Come back later after you have cooled off.

2. I don't know you very well, but please don't let some jackasses push
you away. If you need a break from them, hide the thread, or put them on ignore for awhile.

3. Breaks are good, but don't give up.
We've all thought about it. In fact, I think coordinating this group so that it's not just one of us out there getting the People for the Eating of Tasty Animals jokes has made the DU experience much better.

Definitely take a break if you feel you need it (I do pretty frequently), though.

5. Ohhh, I hate to see you so down,
although I understand completely where you are at & the frustration you feel at the callousness & complete thoughtlessness of humans toward our fellow creatures.

Maybe you should avoid those types of threads. I find them to be majorly downhead. I have been totally stunned at how many DUer's just don't get it about animals. They choose not to apply their liberal convictions to animals & I just don't get it. They are truly regressive on this issue.

Go to your job & love the little guys you care for & try to forget the human collective for a few hours anyway. Come back here for hugs when you need them.

6. I can understand that, but I wish you'd take a
DU break, but not a DU/VV&ARG break...

7. I'm so sorry.
I haven't seen the kitten thread and I won't go looking for it. I can't deal with that kind of thing at all, so I avoid it. I have great admiration for people like you who can get out there and stand up to those insensitive brutes, but everyone has a limit to what they can stomach. Why don't you just take a break from the other forums? It seems very nice and peaceful here.

8. This little forum is my connection to sanity,
Edited on Fri Aug-05-05 10:48 PM by peacebuzzard
I have my new kitty on the top shelf looking down, Rudy in front of my desk, my sick little basset senior lady behind me, and a beagle mix with deformed legs in the kitchen with my now very fat and happy Rottie in the kitchen. All these animals came to me as a last case. Outside I have a rescued rooster and banty hen. I came across a thread somewhere tonight complaining about a roosters crow, and how someone would resort to sss (shoot, shovel and something else, it was insane) I just Xed out. I am sorry so many rotten ass people exist in this world.
I wasn't aware how many rescues you have too. So do I. I really would like to move from here, and actually tried that last year, but my one dear sweet collie rescue died when I temporarily placed him in a kennel. (due to gross negligence and lack of responsibility from people who said they would help--all they wanted was my money) Lord, what do we do when so few homes exist. Thank God for the work you do and the compassion you have. I hope to see your posts again soon.

9. Take some time off if you need, but don't leave.....
...I read the posts on that thread, and gave my rant about it on the Pet thread. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=243x8897#8920

I do not consider some of those posters Democrats. I chose to ignore them. If they think they are Democrats, then they are confused about their party identification. The Republicans would welcome them with arms spread wide, and frankly, they could have them.

But we love your posts here, and thats what matters. And I think we have made some think. If you can make one person think, than thats something. And I think we've done far better than just one person.

Keep up the fight! We need you...

10. Sometimes it can't help but get to you.
There are people who when they know where another's soft spot is, will try their best to stick a knife in it. It's how they get their jollies.

If you have to take a break, then you have to. But I hope you'll check in here when you're up to it. We'll miss you, but we know you're out there doing good. :grouphug:

12. I understand how you feel
I have been here since the start of DU but lately I have gotten so disgusted by the insensitivity and intolerance that I have thought about not making anymore contributions. The problem with that is I couldn't post in this forum anymore and that would be a huge loss to me so I will keep on contributing as long as this worthwhile group is here. Take a break but remember we are still here for you whenever you feel like coming back. :grouphug:

13. Please don't go.
YOu are needed to help people make that change of heart. Being a good example really helps, even if you don't see it at the moment.

Deep breath. Meditation. Stay with us.
