I'm finally giving up seafood.

Yes, thanks to the brave sacrifice of some really nasty-tasting Gulf prawns that I had down in Texas, I'm giving it up for good.

My boyfriend made his mom's shrimp Creole recipe and the shrimp smelled and tasted like plastic to me. It reminded me of the smell when you get your plastic cutting board too close to the burner or something. Anyway, it gave me the major creeps and that's enough for me.

I really struggled to eat while I was down there. Eating in was fine, but restaurants were few and far between. All the veggie burgers have eggs & cheese in them. And after helping my bf's sister and her bf move into their new apt., we were invited for pizza, so I wound up eating two slices of cheese pizza because I hadn't eaten anything all day and was starving. I was so ill the following day. I hadn't had cheese in a long time. And let's just say it wasn't pretty.

I guess I always knew this day would come. I feel good about it. I went shopping this morning (I'd been gone for 10 days) and filled up my fridge with fresh produce and some tofu and I can't wait to make a nice vegan dinner tonight. :woohoo:

On edit - It wasn't like I was eating fish three times a day before, more like maybe twice a month or so. :)

1. That was a hard one for me too !
But realized it was the melted butter I missed most !

Euwww, Gulf Shrimp. I'd be worried too since lately in LBN there's been news of the Gulf having horrible problems with red tide sea life kills and other unappetizing science.

In fact, 3 years ago, when my daughter-in-law was preggers with twins, the first thing the OB told her...no seafood for you! That was my first clue.

So good for you, as a recovering meat addict, I do know how hard it is to give up pleasurable experiences ! I'm still working on smoking :(

2. Thanks
My next hurdle is diet drinks. But one goal at a time. :hi:

3. Congratulations!
Good to hear, but don't beat yourself up if you slip and have fish, or dairy. It's not always easy making the transition to being vegan. Take it slow and you'll be fine. :)

4. That was a very hard one for me too....
My wife went vegetarian before me and then I became vegetarian soon thereafter except for fish. She then went vegan, and my diet at home also became vegan but when I went out to eat "to treat myself" to none vegan food, I'd always go to Long John Silver's. Or when ever I was with other people, etc. I'd always order the fish. But after attending the PETA Helping Animals conference with my wife last spring I have been gone vegan.
