1. I don't think it matters what people think of PeTA
If PeTA was concerned with everyone loving them, they wouldn't do such in your face campaigns. Or as Ingrid Newkirk says - she would have taken up ballroom dancing. They get people thinking about things.

12. I have to agree--they may provide a model for the rest of us
fighting for progressive causes. They are the vegan version of the old trade unions--and they often get results, just like the old trade unions. Like I said in that thread, maybe you have to scare the hell out of someone to get them to stop cutting off chicken beaks.

2. I voted in the poll...
... and read a few of the rabid, foaming at the mouth anti-Peta comments, until I realized those people usually had low post counts, and quite often no profile icon ????? Freepers-Creepers...lol.

3. especially those
that don't seem to keen on the right to strike or protest in general!

I'm a meat eating leather wearer and even i found some of these comments to be over the top - kool aid infected garbage.

6. To be honest
Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 12:43 AM by Djinn
if I ever think about going into another PETA thread (one in LBN as well) I think I might save myself the bother and wade into free republic while smacking my head against a wall.

I swear if I ever see that lame joke about tasty animals again I may well have to go postal - I tell the most tasteless jokes imaginable but that one's just not FUNNY!!

and thanks! (to JackieO as well)

7. (((Echo)))
To all who brought common sense and compassion to the table over there.

IMHO, the person who started that thread, did so with the intention of starting a flame war and loving every minute of it. I'm thinking about spamming those a*holes with Peta Campaign victories. At least the casual uninformed lurker may learn something?

8. I've learned to stay away from PETA threads
they get my blood boiling- and I have to be on my best behavior :-)

9. I see it this way:
PETA is there to get their name out and point across, and have done so. The simple fact that the folks in that thread (both supporters and non supporters) know who PETA is, obviously have had some sort of introduction to the welfare of animals, be it for food or clothing. They take something from that knowledge, like it or not, which could someday put them on the other side. We all started somewhere.

Hell, I did my 7th grade science project on the evils of vivisection, but didn't stop eating meat until I was 26. Now I'm easily one of the most rabid animal advocates at DU (from what I've seen thus far).

10. To me, it's similar to the reactions ...
some of us get to being vegetarian. It's that same sort of anger. Don't quite understand it, except to say that I assume it's because it makes them aware of the suffering of animals and other living creatures in this world and that makes them uncomfortable. They have to face reality instead of pretending that everything is peachy. Nothing will make people madder.

11. PETA gets noticed
In a positive way or a negative way, people do take notice. The animal awareness message gets out there one way or another, that's what counts and that is good

I try and avoid PETA threads if I can. They won't ever convince me PETA is too extremist = bad.

And besides :-) I get too  :nuke:

13. The last time I entered into a discussion
on one of those threads I got told I didn't understand sarcasm just because I was shocked that some different poster (not the one who responded to me about the sarcasm) wanted lunch after reading about the abuse that goes on in slaughter houses! :argh: Geesh, the guy was not being sarcastic he really said he was hungry and yeah obviously he was being a smart ass, I'm just sorry I didn't tell him to stick his smart assed remark where the sun doesn't shine!

14. I just went and took another look at that thread
it really is disgusting. I had to restrain myself from posting in it. It's really sad how uncomfortable people are with their life choices. If they were truly okay with their meat eating ways PETA wouldn't piss them off so much. They are mad because PETA actually shows them what they eat. Dead animals. Brutally killed animals.
