1. Yes, believe it or not. |
|
That is the most common weapon used for rabbit hunting.

3. What's the "sport" in hunting down a five pound animal with a shotgun??? |
|
There's no sport in that. There's no glory in that. Go hand to hand with a bear and if you win, I'll salute you.

for that matter. I just have a lot of knowledge about hunting because I am a copy editor for an outdoor magazine and since it is my job, I have to read all the hunting and fishing stories word for word. So even though I would never do it, I could hunt with the best of them.

2. Of course. Haven't you seen the Elmer Fudd toons? |
|
He used a shotgun, I believe. Hunter in top form, I say. Darn wascally wabbits.

...my late grandfather used to eat rabbit. And they are hunted with shotguns. The pellets dissipate over a long range, so the shot spreads out, making it easier to shoot them when they are running. Using a single shot would be very hard.
Note: I'm not a hunter and don't kill animals, just trying to explain to you as to why they use shotguns. I love Rabbits, and understand/heard that they make great pets!

6. Yes, rabbits make excellent pets. |
|
They can be litter-trained just like a cat. I have had two rabbits as pets. I would love to have another one. But I have a Rottweiler now and I don't think it would work out.

I live in an area full of hunters. Many of my friends and family hunt, actually. I have heard the reasons a million times or more. They will starve to death because of overpopulation, etc. I still, can't think of it as being OK or justified. Hunting an innocent, beautiful animal is certainly not a sport. I will never think it's OK, no matter what the hunters tell me. This is something I know nothing about. (The shotgun for such a small animal)....but it sounds like it makes actually hitting the rabbit easier.
