We bought paint today for the kitchen/dining room, painted one wall (sorta) and IT'S ALL WRONG!!

back to the store tomorrow for a grey that won't turn blue in the room and is Gloss (what was I thinking? I bought Satin for the kitchen :spank: )

but the GOOD News! ya know how they have gallons of "mistakes" around? I found the perfect bedroom paint for $4!! and the paint I got for the kitchen will work great in the Living Room for the blue accent wall I wanted so it wasn't a total waste

Look for pics soon......

1. Aw, sorry about the disppointment
When you're ready to paint a room, you can get raring to go. I'm glad that paint will work well elsewhere. Amazing how many greys there are out there!

Edited on Tue Aug-02-05 09:37 PM by wakemeupwhenitsover
you gotta bring home a small sample of the paint & slap a little on all four walls. Wait until it dries & then decide.

ps; wanna buy come repaint the guest bedroom after I went by one of those stupid chips. :)

edited to add, sorry AZ. I know of what you speak.

best

4. I always buy a pint, put a little on the wall first.
Colors do have a way of changing once you get them in the room.

Sorry AZDem. Better luck next try!

6. Same here. I paint a piece of newspaper and hang it on the wall
and live with it for a while before deciding. If I don't like it, it's easy to remove the newspaper. The downside is that I can end up with several small cans of paint.

Hope you find the right color AZ Dem.

7. I think satin would work
A quality satin paint would be washable and "not show the fingerprints". Gloss in a room gets strange when direct sun comes in the window. Even if the sun does not hit the wall, it will pick up a lot of glare off the floor's or the table's reflection.

DU has a forum for DIY & Home Improvement. Enjoy.

8. yes that is where I should have started this post, but so many have
gone through the "Kitchen Remodel" woes with me here, I thought I'd start it here.

Update.... I went and got new paint today and it's much better, it actually stays grey on the wall LOL

and yes, I remembered to get semi gloss this time, pics this weekend probably

10. we got the dining room section done last night and it's dramatic!
we'll be puttering on the actual kitchen part this weekend (around all the cabinets) but so far it looks GREAT!

I just took some pics, but they don't show the color under artifical lighting. Here's one anyway but I'll get some more today that show the color better

he's like "You picked a good color, hon" and "Gee, look how it's made the cabinets look richer"

So I think he's sold LOL

Now I just have to get rid of those darn pink shades x(

We're actually going to do a faux finish in the bedroom. Sponging is the plan for a couple walls :bounce:

17. Oh, I like the pink shades with the gray walls.
Looks very retro..... All you need to do is paint the cabinets white and it would be very 1950's :P

Post when you get the bedroom done. What color are you using?

20. It looks terrific
And I marvel at your gleaming pots and pans hanging from the pot rack. Mine are... well, let's just say they have a "patina".

Your husband is right. Your walls make the cabinets really glow. What color do you want on your windows? I see that you want to change your shades.

21. Barkeeper's Friend works wonders and having a glass top stove
helps too.

I'll be making custom Roman Shades for the windows as they are recessed so roman's will work well and keep a very tailored look.

as for the color, I'm thinking a stripe pattern with gray, cobalt maybe some teal and a hint of peach or burgundy. I think a subtle stripe will keep the walls looking higher (we have cathedral ceilings in the rest of the house)

I'll know it when I see it :)

and now DH has talked me into losing the ceiling fan all together and replacing it and the fluorescent fixture with two these from IKEA
