Has anyone ever entered food competitions at a county fair?
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 04:04 PM by Shakespeare
I'm seriously considering entering some of my jams and conserves in this year's Sonoma County Harvest Fair, and I'm curious if anyone else has ever tried this. I made a lavender & white nectarine jam a couple of weeks ago that turned out especially well, and I wanna see how it goes over at the big fair.

1. Mmmmm, that sounds delicious.
Hey, you never know unless you try. If you enter, post and let us know how it went.

2. No, not food but I entered a photograph in the black and white
competition and won the big, blue ribbon..much to my surprise. It'll be fun, you should go for it!

3. You should absolutely do it
I have worked for a fair on the "other side" of the competition (i.e. administative) and my one word of advice is to make sure you follow the rules to the letter. This is especially crucial when you are dealing with home processed food (the processing method & time should be approved by the fair management).

The fair I'm acquainted with gives scorecards on most of the entries - so you know what you've done well & what you can do to improve. You might ask if your fair does that (a lot of people enter just for that purpose).

Good luck and your jam sounds heavenly.

4. I got 3rd place for BBQ sauce at the LA County Fair
last year. It's the first time I ever won a ribbon. I didn't get around to entering anything this year.
